Didn't vote because I wasn't exactly sure how to answer.

To some degree I'd say yes because honestly as long as the characters are cute/likable a kid will probably enjoy the show. However as someone who is coming from a show like Winx I think that there should be at least some level of effort. Like I've seen kids' shows that are extremely witty. I just started Star Vs The Forces of Evil it's for kids but I absolutely love it because it has some super witty and clever dialog. And the plot is really solid. But I've also seen kids shows that are just kind of basic. So far that's how I see MLP. I don't hate it anymore but it's not on the same level as Star.

In other words I simply have a deeper appreciation for the kids' cartoons/shows that also appeal to adults and have a degree of complexity. But at the end of the day I don't really hold it against the authors if it's of a lower quality because it's for kids. They don't pay attention.

(Unless they pull a Winx where it started off as a quality show and took a major downgrade.)

DOUG WALKER: Just because it's a kids movie, doesn't mean you don't need to try.. If anything, you should try that much harder

"It's for kids" does not mean a movie can't be good (or even groundbreaking). Some of the best movies ever made are "kids' movies" (The Wizard of Oz, Beauty and the Beast, The Iron Giant, etc...)
"It's for kids" is not an excuse for bad writing. It is not an excuse for lazy storytelling. S***ty and awful is s***ty and awful no matter what the target audience is.
Unfortunately, it's become an excuse for a movie to be badly written with a lazy story. Which is probably why movies such as Bratz and The Lorax exist.

Yes, because kids are easily entertained and may not comprehend everything in a movie. I didn't really understand The Hunchback of Notre-Dame as a kid and I wasn't really into the movie. It's a much better movie as an adult. I enjoyed Casper the Friendly Ghost, but after watching Nostalgia Critic's review on Casper, it really wasn't as good as I remembered.
It depends on the perspective. If they're going for profit, it doesn't really need to be deep. It can just appeal to the mainstream crowd. If they want a classic, it would need good writing.
I'm going by the perspective of just being "it has to appeal to kids". It doesn't really need amazing writing. It is a valid excuse for that perspective. Reviewing movies as an adult is a lot different from the perspective of a kid. Trash movies like Frozen can appeal to kids.

This is kind of what I was going on too.

No, I don't think so at all. I think that any movie from any genre can be shitty and terrible, but doesn't have to be known as a kids movie in order to be that way. I think any movie has to have multiple problems to be considered that way, boring/lame story and one dimensional characters being amongst the top contenders for major movie problems IMO. There have been a large number of childrens movies that I really enjoyed, because they were enjoyable and they got the story and characters right.

@Ego That is where I stand as well. Its like no one would criticize Barney movies on the scale of how good it should be cause its meant for kids. Yeah a bit of a drastic example but still one. If its meant to appeal to kids, sometimes it really cant be too good or complex to keep it be as enjoyable for kids as they want.

Not sure why you would care that much about what others think about a movie. Kids movies aren't meant to always be intelligent. and the fact you're bitching about it makes this entire situation even more hilarious and pathetic. Just don't watch it. It's not that hard. I am pretty sure you can figure out that solution if you try really really hard. But I doubt it. (And yes I am only answering this to piss you off. Suck it.)

I don't think so. Some of kids movies sometimes seems kind of cheesy for older audiences, but it doesn't mean they're s***ty or awful. Some like Disney or Dreamworks movies are not that bad. Also, not every awful movies are from kids movies, even movies that marketed for teenagers/adults can be awful, too.
