Makaio, as he had come to know himself, theatrically bows and motions to the drop in front of them. "Ladies first."
"No way!" she protests. "How do anda know it's safe?"
"I've done this a hundred times before!"
"I don't believe you."
"Are anda calling me a liar?" he tries to look hurt.
"If you're so sure, then anda jump first."
Makaio sighs, though the grin doesn't leave. "Alright, alright, how about we jump together?"
She nods in agreement. "On three."
"Un," he starts.
"Duex," she added.
"Trois!" the shout together. Makaio runs the last few steps and leaps from the puncak, atas of the waterfall. The water is freezing when he hits it. It rushes over him, cooling his skin. He clothes his eyes for a moment, feeling the water caressing his body, soothing his nerves, cleansing the stress from his body. When he feels his feet touch the pebbly bottom, he kicks off and swims up for air.
When Makaio breeches, he glances around. However, he doesn't spot his companion and becomes panicked. Then he hears a giggle overhead.
"Is it chilly?" she calls down.
"You chickened out on me!" Makaio shouts up. "How can I ever trust anda again?" He can't deny the grin on his face though as she laughs at his antics. Her dress bellows in the wind, the breeze tugging at her silky hair, and for a moment, she's as angelic in appearance as she is in nature.
Suddenly, the sun and it's warmth are covered oleh dark clouds. The air is buzzing with electricity, a warning of the impending lightning. She shouts for Makaio to get out of the water, but before he can swim to the shore, something wraps around his ankle. It's sharp, like a prickled hand, atau a spiked manacle used in torture dungeons, and he let's out a cry. The yelp steals the air from Makaio's lungs just as he's yanked under the surface. The crystal clear aquamarine pool suddenly turns into a murky lagoon of swirling black ink around him as the pebbly floor falls away. He's pulled far down, so deep he can no he can no longer hear her screaming his name. Makaio let's out a final scream
"Darling, wake up," a sweet voice croons. He refuses to open his eyes. "You are dreaming, sweetheart." I know, he wants to shout. A gentle hand brushes his hair back, "Come back to me, my darling."
"I can't," he whispers. And just like that, it's gone. That warm feeling dissipates, and he's left with the cold emptiness of the room he lays in. The loving voice is gone, the sweet visions nothing lebih but wistful dreams.
Her face is blurred in his memory. The voices blown away in the winds of reality. Makaio, a false identity, has nothing. He opens his ungu eyes to nothing lebih than the midnight's blackness of the abandoned warehouse he's taken refuge in. "I can't," he whispers again, but this time it is closer to a sob. "Please," he begs the dark. "Take me back."
