Hey, I haven't diposting any menulis on here for all the long while I've been a member, but I thought I'd try posting this little thing I wrote, since when I diposting it other places it was at a slow membaca time. It's only about 1000 words; short, and slightly sad. Inspiration comes from the song "That's Okay" oleh The Hush Sound.

Will They Say Your Name?
oleh Shawna (funnyshawna, longerthanwedo, etc)

It’s a house. It’s dark in appearance but it makes him warm, sitting, Frozen as he is in his silent world. Not a silent earth; he doesn’t think he’s quite a part of the earth. He’s maybe hovering a little, two feet off the ground but two feet away from the sky. Close enough to touch but not able to reach up.

And the sound. Not close enough to hear the sounds from inside the house. He remembers the sound, though, almost. Laughter, he thinks that was it. He thinks there was laughter, but he can’t hear it now. He can’t hear any of it. He can’t hear the earth atau the voices – sweet, sweet sounds – of the people on it. They’re lucky, he thinks, so lucky to have their feet on the solid surface, to have their ears filled with the cacophony of the life around them.

He’s just stuck, floating, not here, not there, not quite in between. He thinks he’s closer to here than there, though. He can see the place that once was his, and he barely catches glimpses of the place he’s headed to. He has no idea where he’s going, but he has his memories – slipping, fragmented memories – of where he’s been.

It’s mostly a feeling of safety that washes over him as he stares, unblinking, at the house. It’s impossible for him, stuck where he is, to feel anything substantial; anything other than loneliness and longing. It’s lebih of a ghost of feeling that floods the ghost of his mind; he remembers feeling aman, brankas here, aman, brankas among the laughter.

He wonders, often, why he’s not still there. As he sits and stares he ponders. Where is he? Where is he going and is it safe, like where he’s been? Why is he caught here, floating as time passes below him and unseen activities continue above?

Why can’t he find his way back?

Maybe it’s because he doesn’t know his way back, because he doesn’t remember how he got here.

He remembers a little, only a little. He remembers dark, but not warm darkness, like the shadows of his house. He remembers noise, but it wasn’t the laughing kind. And he remembers pain. A sharp pain – pain is the sharpest memory he has. But the memory of the pain is only a membagi, split detik long, and then it fades. His memory fades as he remembers fading away. He remembers a voice, resounding as he dissolved. “When you’re gone, will they say your name?” The voice echoes in the emptiness. And then he’s there, here, sitting, watching from afar and unable to hear a thing.

He thinks he’s sure he knows why. His name, it’s the only sound he needs to hear. His name, just once spoken as he waits would mean they cared. Them, the people with the laughter and the faces he almost remembers – he needs them to care. He needs to know that now, though he’s gone, they cinta him the same. He needs to know they won’t just turn away.

“If somebody loved you, they’d tell anda oleh now.”

It’s a voice and he startles to hear it, but he immediately knows it’s from nowhere on earth. This voice, high and sweet and rough all at the same time, comes from right beside him; a piece of sound coming from inside these inches he’s trapped between. It’s inside the inches between earth and sky.

He looks around and he sees her. She’s a women but she’s not substantial. She looks like a reflection of what he feels; colorless and barely there, barely a mind and a shadow of what once was. She has a sad smile on her smoky lips and her eyes stare into his. For a moment he almost sees color in them, but then he blinks and they fade to grey.

“They all turn away when you’re down,” she says, staring out at the landscape and contemplating, looking wise without meaning to.

Her wispy hair curls and glows around her face, forming what looks too much like a halo. That and the smile on her face, they create an illusion of innocence – morbid, twisted innocence – that twirls his thoughts as she tells him they don’t cinta him. They don’t say his name.

He wants to hate her. He wants to take her, the woman and her halo. He wants to shake her and tell her, you’re wrong, they will, they will say my name. He wants to hate her because she’s right.

She turns to him and the blue of the sky shines through the transparency of her cheeks and her hair. There’s a soft shadow of sympathy in her eyes and he can’t hate her, not really. Not when her face is so kind and his emotions are so distant. He’s not sure there’s room for hate in this loneliness.

“Until someone loves you, I’ll keep anda safe,” she promises and her words make their way through his mind, giving him hope but making him question.
“What then?” he wonders because he doesn’t want to know the answer. But he can’t help but want to know his future.

“Then,” she muses, gaze locked with his. “Then, like them, I will give anda away.”

He looks back at the house and begins to doubt whether he’ll ever leave, ever pindah on, ever hear his name spoken from inside his childhood home. But he knows; now he knows that his childhood halaman awal is nothing but bones. Not the house – the house is still standing – but the person he was, that someone is nothing but bones. Powder white bones that won’t let him find his way back. In the corner of his almost-mind, as a passing thought with nowhere to settle, he thinks that maybe they won’t ever say his name.

“You know they won’t say a word.”

He can feel her eyes on the side of his head and he feels like crying because he still desperately needs. He needs, he wants, he needs to hear something from his former home. He needs sound. His world can’t end in silence.

“But, anda know, that’s okay.” Her voice is but a whisper in the air and the floating thought solidifies and he knows. He knows he’s waiting for something that’ll never come. He realizes his waiting is futile and that’s when he begins to feel himself slip away. He floats, higher and higher and the place he knew grows smaller and smaller and as the ghost of his life drifts away he’s scared. There’s fright in his face but he keeps on rising because he knows how.

He knows, that’s okay.

The critic noted "That's really not very specific, is it? Two 'opposites'? Come on, you're going to have to be lebih specific than that."

The penulis considered. Then the penulis wrote:

As I stood there waiting at the jalan, street corner I thought about how much I was going to kill Fawn. She's making me wait oleh the jalan, street corner drenched in rain while she was probably getting a ride from her father.

I then saw her father's car turn up around the corner. Fawn, with her colourful Jansport bag came out... with an umbrella. I ran up to her and mencuri the umbrella.

"Hey gothie! Come back here!" She yelled. I laughed as I ran away. She loved to call me gothie. I wore black make-up, black clothing, and I loved skulls. But that doesn't make me goth!

If I'm not a goth, my own person, then...

He didn't seem... mad. Like he should have been. Like he had every right to be.

He stopped maybe a meter away from me. I glanced up, and saw the same look of indecision I had seen on his face the first day.

I had no idea what I was supposed to do. My life is not a perfect little story where happy endings are mandatory.

I didn't expect myself to sink to the floor against the dinding and begin crying. There just weren't words to say what I wanted to.

I didn't expect him to sit in front of me and put his hands on my shoulders. He forced me to to look up at him, and he said, "Tell me."

A place I once trusted
A place I once believed in
A place I once loved
A place I once missed
Is coved under a masquerade
Of misery and pain
The blue in the sky is now a shade
I feel like all this time was a game
A game of sham
A game of backstabbing
A game of war
A game of fate
I feel trapped in a box
Crammed in and lonely
With nothing but locks
With no key so that it can hold me
A box of lies
A box of fear
A box of loneliness
A box of weakness
I always have a word on mind
Just a few words long
To me it seems so thoughtful and kind
To me free it isn't a dance atau song
Free as the wind
Free as a bird
Free as an malaikat
Free as a shooting bintang
The feeling will come to me
But not right now
I hope my soul can soon be free
So then I can take my final bow

I watched from around the corner as the little puppy, so curious with it's ways, was snooping around seeing what was in this big old house. He sniffed around, ears drooping to the floor, sliding in a cepat, swift path. That little puppy, I had just gotten from the pound, I still couldn't think of a name for the curious puppy. Just as I thought to leave, something about the pup caught my eye, he had stopped in his tracks, staring at something that I couldn't see. That was when I knew exsactly what he was staring at, my old cat. Sapphire was her name, she was a grumpy old cat, I wasn't sure what to...

He berkata anda are in med school. That made me happy since I was there too, though against my welling. I thought that anda are passionate and caring, that anda are loving and want to help everyone. I woke up as usual. But there was something about today that was going to change. Unusual. I stumbled out of bed, opening my eyes to darkness. I wouldn't need to expect sunlight just yet. I clumsily found my way to the bathroom to take my shower.
For some reason, I wanted extremely hot water. Usually, I would have tepid water on, but this time, the water was blazing. The water beat my back with an intensity far beyond a human could ever intake. It was like hail was being shot at my skin, with a beat to it. The burning was far worse. When every droplet hit my skin, there would suddenly be a sharp...

If you're wondering, "Diem Mirabilis" is Latin for "Day of Wonders". (At least it's SUPPOSED to be. My Latin isn't what it used to be, hehe.) This was just a little something I whipped up for a story I'm writing. I wanted to put something at the beginning of each chapter that roughly follows the times of day, and I couldn't find anything good. So I made my own. =) Hope anda enjoy it!

Diem Mirabilis

Morning:

for Morning is made
of mysteries and uncertainties
the hopes of beginnings
the risks of unknowns
the potential for greatness
atau failure

Midday:

for Midday is the height
of the glory of the sun
the climax of twenty-four hours
the brightness that blinds and clarifies
the jawaban once hidden
now unveiled

Sunset:

for Sunset arrives
with the final shift of the sky
the afterglow of the triumph
the sweetness of the last drop
the closing chapter of a story
and the beginning...

of a new one.

I've been slowly but steadily coming to the conclusion that poetry as an art form is quickly losing its flavor amongst the iPod generation. And I'm not talking about contemporary poets who don't get read oleh the masses, because as Gertrude Stein would say, "Those who are creating the modern composition authentically are naturally only of importance when they are dead because oleh that time the modern composition having become past is classified and the keterangan of it is classical. That is the reason why the creator of the new composition in the arts is an outlaw until he is a classic." Or,...

Tia had told me that he obviously liked black, so she'd chosen the scary kutang, halter puncak, atas and skinny jeans with black peep-toed heels. Tia had gone overboard. I looked like a freaking goth.

I thought I was dressed way out of my league, but Tia berkata I wasn't. It was difficult to believe her.

Still, I dropped a plate when I was in the dapur on Saturday evening when he knocked on the door. I almost twisted my ankle in my hurry to open the door. I threw it open, and I almost cried in relief when it was him and I hadn't almost injured myself for nothing.

He looked stunned when he saw what I was...
