The Kids Don’t Know What They Don’t Know
Chapter 6
Hiding in Plain Sight
Things that are important to me, I hide in plain sight. These things are always with me. For example, the kalung I am wearing now is square, and has a blue stone. Taped to the back is a picture of my mom and dad in high school. I wrote on the back, “Missed anda Sunshine.” Because that’s what my dad berkata to my mom a while back, when they were still fighting. Nobody knows this but LeShequa and Genn. And Dominic. Duh. I am defiantly not a beauty queen like Hanalei, but I do wear a lot of jewelry. Like I have a thick bracelet with little silver circles on it, and on the inside are kutipan from the happy times, before the fights. I tape the little folded papers to the inside of all my jewelry. It holds memories. “Most people think I’m a sap, but come on, when anda have a family like mine, everything matters in life.” I told Genn. She totally understands. All of a sudden my phone started blasting out the first lines of “ET” oleh Katy Perry , my ringtone and favorit singer. “Hello?” I berkata as I picked up the phone. “Elle? It’s Courtney. Dominic and Duncan were driving, and someone rear-ended them. I thought anda might want to know. “
“Court, does mom know?”
“Well, no, but-”
“HOW COULD anda NOT CALL HER FIRST?”
“Because Dominic asked for you.”
“What hospital?”
“Anne Memorial.”
After I hung up on Courtney, I instantly called Mom and said, “Dominic and Dad are in Anne Mem Hospital!” She was quiet then I heard a clang, like she dropped the phone. I heard a door slam. I told Genn, then her mom drove me. I ran inside, then saw Dominic with a bloody nose and a bandage on his head. “Oh, no! anda lost lebih brain cells!” I joked. He rolled his eyes and Dad walked in. “So, I see anda didn’t get hurt.” I berkata in a asam tone. I shot my dad daggers with my eyes. He rolled his eyes. Dominic has a concussion and wouldn’t be in school for a while. I rolled my eyes and mouthed “lucky” to him. He just grinned in response. So once I wheeled Dominic out of the hospital (he has a wheelchair because of his severe concussion) He got to ride in the bagasi, batang of mom’s van. I sat up front. We got to my house, and Courtney walked in with Dad, Mom, and I. Greyson Chance was blasting from the speakers and my mom started painting again. Courtney started yelling at Mom. “Do anda have a real job?” Court asked. I came to Mom’s defense, “Well, Miss Pole-Up-My-Butt, Mom does have a job. It’s just fun. Unlike you.” Dad snickered, Mom looked amused and Courtney was enraged. “Come on, Princess! anda have to admit, anda have a pole up your butt the size of Canada!” Duncan said. I stood there open-mouthed, when Dominic walked in. “What? Did Dad and Mom kiss?” He asked sarcastically. That snapped Duncan out of his victory dance, Mom out of her glazed-over look, and me out of my mind block. We all kinda glared at him. “Whaaat?” he asked in an annoyed tone. I rolled my eyes and everything was boring again. Until Court lost it again. “HA!” she yelled when she threw a paintbrush at Mom. Green paint landed on her fore head. “Princess!” I yelled. I knew it annoyed her if anybody but Duncan called her that. Duncan all of a sudden yelled, “Burn!”. Soon enough, we had a paint fight in the art studio.
Wooo Hoo!
