The only really positively connotated option here is "Peace with God," but I don't believe in God so I'm going with stuff yo!

I want to be successful enough to live in comfort - yes with a good house and yes with a nice car (BMW please!). There are definitely other values (LOTS of other values) that I'd list above material goods in importance, but they're not on here... so shtuff. c:

Lemme ask you 2 things:

Why don't you believe in God?
and
What do you believe in? (What i mean is do believe evolution, are you Buddhist/Muslim etc.)

^ Haha, I really like your willingness to get into these issues. You, madam, are a fantastic human being.

But my answers to 1 and 2 are basically the same - I don't believe in God because I believe in evolution. I was raised to be open to everything by agnostic parents and I went to church with my grandparents to learn about God at the same as I went to school to learn about Darwinian evolution. I just chose evolution over religion, because it is logical and proven. (My sister chose to believe in both, as an interesting aside.) I don't like the idea of God because it's intangible and illogical, I don't like religion was created just to explain what we didn't understand and thus seems no longer necessary to me, not to mention it's unbearably subjective and edited, and I don't like the Church because it's hypocritical and has strayed so far from its intentions.

Thank you! You are very special too.

So tell me, why do you believe evolution as logical? I understand evolution, but, to me, it seems totally illogical. And when you say God and the Bible and Creation etc. is illogical, I must object. If you look at it closely, it makes perfect sense.

And when you say evolution has been scientifically proven, I must object. But this is not true. Science points to the fact that the Bible is true.

And I must ask, why do you say that the Church is hypocritical?

That's a lot to address, wow. I'll try to be brief. ^_^"

I view evolution as logical because there is scientific proof that I have read and understood, and we see the effects of evolution daily, right? Everyone knows survival of the fittest. And comparing the genes of different organisms and cells shows that the DNA of all life forms is strikingly similar, so isn't it logical they came from a common source?

And evolution is essentially fact. There is overwhelming evidence pointing towards it - countless studies and experiments. There's genomic sequencing, Mendelian inheritance, Griffith's tests with bacterial transformation... Hundreds of years of scientific evidence cushioned with data and numbers and logic.

And I'm sure you know that argument and others (I don't mean to insult your intelligence, I promise), but I'm not really sure how else to explain why I choose evolution as my explanation over God in other terms. I suppose it is just a matter of different systems of belief. Why don't you see evolution as logical? And what makes you say the Bible is true? That might be the better question to make it easier. ^_^"

The Church thing... I mean the Catholic Church, but come on, the sex scandals? The obsession with money? Love thy neighbor as thyself unless thy neighbor doesn't believe the same thing as you? I kind of want to close that whole topic in favor of the evolution vs. creation topic though, since that's more the original topic and we'd have too much to discuss. =P

I respect your beliefs, but just try to understand me here.

OK, so you see, there are two things that don't make sense to me.

The first is: How can something be formed out of nothing?
The second is: If we are evolved from apes, why are there still apes around.

It makes much more sense to me to believe that someone created the world, than the world forming out of nothing.

And with the church thing... that's only some churches. See, you've judged all the churches by what you've seen in one. Saying that we're sex scandals and whatnot is like saying that all you evolutionist are common criminals.

The truth is, the church loves you. They want to welcome you with open arms and accept you just the way you are. But you haven't given them a chance. at least that's the case with most churches.

BTW, please clear up the 2 things I don't understand. Thnx.

LaDispute picked Stuff (falshy car, big house etc.):
1. The Big Bang. The premise is that matter and energy have always existed, and that's the argument. I know it's a hard answer to wrap your head around, but I could turn the question right around and say, "Where did God come from? Where did He get matter from?" Your answers would probably either have to be the same as mine, or be supernatural, which is entirely illogical.

2. We did not evolve from apes, we share a common ancestor with apes. Both modern humans and modern apes evolved from the same ancestral ape, but we just evolved in different directions based on environmental conditions. That's the basis of the entire tree of life.

The Church thing: I did say the Catholic Church, and what I meant was the Roman Catholic Church - the Vatican and all. Remember that I did give Christianity a chance though, I went to church for years and I still go whenever I visit my grandparents. It's just not the choice I made.

1. I can answer the "Where did God come from?"question with another question. That is: "Does the universe have a beginning or end? Two brick walls out the somewhere that have 'The Beginning' and 'The End' written on them?"

2. And explain to me, what is this 'common ancestor' we share with apes?

And with the Christianity... I'm sure you've heard about heaven and hell. Well, I'm here to tell you that they are real. That eternity is real. And if you are going to reject God, you are going to have no choice but to spend eternity in hell.

I thought you wanted answers, not something to argue against...

1. I don't even see how your questions relate - mind enlightening me?

2. Obviously we don't know exactly because we weren't there when the split happened (around 5 mya?) but I looked it up and the consensus seems to be some primitive African ape, based on fossils and the DNA analysis of other preserved specimens found.

Heaven and Hell? With all the evidence there is to back that I could just as easily say the afterlife is filled with unicorns giving you ice cream.

Hmm... very good answer. I chose the treasure that can never be stolen. Even death can't take it away. That treasure is peace with God. Even though you don't believe, I will still respect your beliefs.

All I'm saying is that fame, money, stuff, jewels, gold, sliver etc. will one day fade away. It will wither be stolen, lost, snatched from you, or left behind by death. But peace with God will never fade away or be stolen.

MineTurtle picked Peace with God:
Well for starters, there's this:

In the past thirty five years, scientists have been stunned to discover that the universe is finely tuned to an incomprehensible precision to support life. For many scientist, this points in a very compelling way toward the existence of an Intelligent Designer. Here are some of the data gathered by scientists, both Christians and non-Christians, that point toward complexity and orderedness at the beginning of the universe: Stephen Hawkins has calculated that if the rate of the universe's expansion one second after the Big Bang had been smaller by even one part in a hundred thousand million million, the universe would have collapsed into a fireball. British physicist P.C.W. Davies has concluded that the odds against the initial conditions being suitable for the formation of stars, which are necessary for planets and thus life, is a one followed by at least a thousand billion billion zeros. Davies also estimated that if the strength of gravity were changed by only one part in 10^100, life could never have developed. For comparison, there are only 10^80 atoms in the entire known universe. There are about fifty constants and quantities. For example, the amount of usable energy in the universe, the difference in mass between protons and neutrons, the proportion of matter to antimatter. That must be balanced to a mathematically infinitesimal degree for any life to be possible. For organic life to exist, the fundamental regularities and constants of physics must all have values that together fall into an extremely narrow range.

And that's only a bit of evidence!

LaDispute picked Stuff (falshy car, big house etc.):
See, but that's not actually evidence for the existence of God or Heaven and Hell; that's just evidence that the universe is very unlikely.

Because you see, this could be the billion billionth universe and there could have been millions of other Big Bangs that collapsed into fireballs, and I think I remember seeing this one Discovery Channel special where they talked about how there was a theory that there were many Big Bangs and many universes but not all of them survived. There was something about different dimensions and the curve of space of time that allowed them all to exist. I'm not a physics person so I don't know/understand any more, but it might still be the case.

Because the thing is: - the only reason people say that all your "evidence" points to a Creator is that they don't understand what really happened yet. Most religious explanations are proved wrong at some point~

Okay, so you believe in the Big Bang. Well, here's some perspective.

If that is so, then I believe that the computer/laptop or whatever you are using was made from nothing. Just formed with one big bang. No one was there. Nothing was there. It just formed all by itself.

Fine. Let's look at it a different way. When you hear a noise, you automatically look to see where it came from. The noise always comes from SOMETHING. Then, how, can a big bang come from nothing?

"Truth" is subjective. My logic makes sense, and you can't keep trying to call me on something you don't understand. I suggest you take the time to read into the Big Bang, and maybe then you'll have a more solid grasp on the concepts.
