Stereotypes maybe?

Ok so I'd just like to know why people are completely shocked when I say I like anime (by like I'm mean cinta :3) I diposting the pic because slot if times it's people who don't know me like at all lol but many people iv talked to for awhile still are shocked XD
My freshman tahun I had my Japanese teacher say to me "WOW anda like anime " and I'm like yea and he says " I just really didn't think u where the type.
But what's the type? Why's that so shocking to people... Iv been watching anime and membaca komik jepang for like 6 years lol I'm not new to it atau anything lol ...
Soo anyone gave any idea why this is , kuz I'm lost oleh it :)

yeah ik how that gors myself if u look at my pics im between goth and punk but yet i listen to opera at times ive gotta the *u dont look the type* before to it may be they just dont know u atau thought u watched other stuff about the way u carry urself that falls under *judging a book oleh its cover* u will get it alot lebih trust me just hang ur head high and cinta what u cinta and smile about it hope this was helpful :) (sorry pic mood lol)

I also cinta anime and Dr.Who and I might be a pegasister as well (I would find some hobbies but I'm bad at everything) the stereotype of an otaku is basically an over weight nerd with no friends a.k.a not most otakus. But frankly I've been to cons and I've seen so many people who cinta anime and it really is just a bad sterotype. If I where anda I'd get a bunch of anime t-shirts and really just be like yea! I like anime, got a problem with that? and prove them all wrong!
