Through a hole in the cloud, he gazed down and saw Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. Two blondes holding hands walked through the doors and behind them, a short, large nosed man was arguing with someone on the phone.
I don’t miss that place. It’s one the reasons I left. He thought. “I DON”T MISS YOU!” he shouted though the hole. He kicked the clouds so the hole closed. “I don’t miss you.”
Kutner looked around the awan he was on. It was pretty much a jalan, street with clouds covering the street. The doors on the building along the sides had plates with the deceased, along with the years they lived. “Lawrence Kutner…” he read. “1975-2009.”
He opened the door to find the room just to be like his own, back on Earth. The Wookie collectables, Pokemon card collection, and bintang Trek mugs, all where he left them. Bored with the room, he walked out the door to find a familiar blonde woman at his door.
“Kutner?” Amber whispered. “…Oh my God…”
Kutner saw the concern in her eyes. Her lip began to quiver. “What happened?” He didn’t know dead people could cry.
“ I really don’t know if I should tell you.”
“You can either tell me, atau I can look it up. I think it will be easier if anda tell me.”
“You can look up how people died?”
“Don’t change the subject.” She no longer looked upset. “What happened?”
“I killed myself.” He didn’t want to blurt it out like that, but her eyes pierced though his own. She relaxed and looked at him with a confused expression.
“Golden Gate Bridge? Poisoned food?”
Now he had the confused expression. “Uh, bullet through the temple?”
“Good choice. Short and sweet. So welcome to Heaven. Your gonna need to learn the ropes around here, atau the other malaikat are going to think your crazy.”
Man, she moves quickly.
“Its different here than on Earth. A lot lebih crowded. All anda need to do is find at least five people anda know to not be lonely. I’m sure you’ll find some other people. anda already have me.” She smiled. “You can’t make friends here. I don’t know why, but anda can’t. I already tried. And to get your pertanyaan over with; anda don’t need to eat, anda can’t follow people on Earth unless assigned oleh the Big Guy, and no, anda can’t meet God.”
“Heaven sucks.”
“Yes. It does. And lucky you, anda chose to be here.”
And as he peered over the edge of the cloud, he saw the people he left, the people he chose to leave, and wondered the rest of eternity why he had decided to go.
