I only read a few chapters of Twilight and yes, Bella was one of the reasons I didn't want to read more...

Bella is whiny and is always getting in some kind of trouble and then needs others to help her. She can not take care of herself, and I dislike that kind of people.
Btw, these kind of questions should be put in the Harry Potter vs Twilight spot.

I did NOT understand that sentence. How does main character-ness change anything? And Hermione IS a main character, she's in the Trio. If you mean it's not in her POV, well, that doesn't make much sense either.

Bella is plain and average. she said so herself in the books. she isn't particularly smart either. she's whinny and so annoyingly dependant upon others. whereas hermione is witty, smart, and independant. remember, the Sorting Hat wanted to put her in Ravenclaw, but finally settled for gryffindor which means she has the characteristics for both:
"Their daring, nerve and chivalry
Set Gryffindors apart"
"Where those of wit and learning,
Will always find their kind" (Ravenclaw)
if bella ever went to hogwarts, i think she'd be put in Hufflepuff. which is, in my opinion, not an honour. (though i have nothing against hufflepuffs)
Hermione should have a bigger part than Bella if she were in Twilight.

Hermione Granger is:
- Intelligent
- Funny
- Courageous
- Loyal
- She wouldnt have killed herself if Ron dies or if he left her!
When faced with the same situation (Edward leaving Bella, Ron leaving Hermione and Harry in DH) Hermione reacted way better than Bella ever did.
Bella turned suicidal while Hermione cried for a few days and simply got over it.
She realized that helping Harry out was more important.
& when Ron returned, Hermione was pissed off and ignored him for days instead of throwing herself at him and begging for him not to leave ever again.

Anyhoo, the character Bella sends woman back about fifty years. She's basically in a relationship with an abusive, crazy boyfriend who wants to kill her. Then, when life cuts her break and he leaves her, she becomes suicidal. Yet... it's cool?
Hermione is smart, brave, loyal, and helps save the world. MUCH better female role model.

Bella on the other hand, is whiny, treats her friends like dirt, jumps off a cliff just to hear Edward's voice and goes all zombie for four months. How is Bella better than Hermione?
Hermione is one of the biggest reasons why I love Harry Potter that much and Bella is one of the biggest reasons why I stop reading Twilight.
Hermione has been such a great friend herself, for example by always helping Neville in the potion class or being loyal to Harry in Dumbledore´s Army, also with their escape to search horcruxes. She says it herself: "Books! And cleverness! There are more important things -- friendship and bravery." - Bella, on the other hand, underrates her friends. I am referring to what she thinks about Jessica, Angela or Mike. I don't find them very likeable or intelligent, either , but why is she friends with such idiots if she doesn't appreciate them? To feel herself better?
She not only underrates her friends, but her family, as well. She always thinks about Charlie or her mother, as they were some naive kids. Hermione loves her family. Hermione would do anything for her family. She did the Obliviate just to protect them. And the only person Bella really overrates is Edward, there is no one else who she cares about. This is pathetic. And the only reason she so cares about Edward is that he is glittering?? WTF!?!! Hermione is in love, too, but she's not as shallow as Bella is. If Bella were a Harry Potter character she would fall in love with Harry - because he is the chosen one, he is the famous one, he is the boy who lived or with Cedric, because he is so good looking, he is so popular or with Krum, because he is a huge star or something - she would never fall in love with Ron. While Hermione is such an intelligent, loyal, independent, freshening character, Bella is such an obssesive, shallow, needy, melodramatic freak!
She accepted it despite her heartbreak, and went on to fight the darkest wizard of all time. She was loyal, strong, brave, and independent. When Ron came back, she was angry at him for making her so worried. She stayed true to herself.
When Edward left Bella:
She basically gave up and forgot about every good thing in her life, like her family, friends, popularity. She felt she was nothing without her boyfriend, and sat around doing nothing. She had absolutely no pride whatsoever, and even attempted suicide just because he boyfriend was gone. A weak, spineless nimpty.
