-------------------------------------

melati was starting to detik guess her decision to go after James. She had spent a few days on the ship and she had to admit being out on the ocean frightened her. She had never been on a ship before and hadn't known what to expect. It was rocky and small and made her feel completely unsafe. When they finally docked, melati was grateful to get off the ship.

They were on an island called Tortuga. It was known to be a non-governing, lawless place. There were people everywhere and melati couldn't help feeling a little uncomfortable. She needed a crew who wasn't afraid of ghost stories and she had been told this was the best place to find that crew, but she was having doubts. No one that she saw seemed even remotely capable of running a ship.

A few feet away from melati a window broke and two men came flying out of it. They landed in front of melati and she came to an abrupt stop.

"Liar!" one of them shouted. They started fighting and melati quickly got out of their way.

She continued on her way, not sure where to even start. Every man she passed eyed her hungrily. She kept her eyes down and hugged her mantel tightly around her.

"Hey, princess."

melati froze. Someone recognized her. What if they worked for her father? Were they here to take her back home? She turned towards where the voice had come from. To her surprise she saw a woman leaning against a lamp post. She was wearing a ripped rok and a corset that was partly untied. Her messy brown hair hung loosely around her shoulders and her lipstick was slightly smudged. But despite that she still looked pretty. melati had never seen a lady of the night before, but she was certain this woman was one.

"How do anda know me?" melati asked.

The woman slowly smiled at her. "I don't know who are you. But, you've got 'princess' written all over you. I mean, look at that silk gaun and all those jewels. Only a princess would come to a place like this dressed like that."

melati looked down at her appearance, not sure how to respond to that.

"What brings anda here?" the woman asked.

"I'm looking for a crew."

The woman raised an eyebrow. "I don't think you're going to find what you're looking for here."

"I was told I could find a crew here to help me. Do sailors not come here?"

The woman gave her an amused smile. "Sailors? No. You're only gonna find pirates here."

melati suppressed a gasp. This was definitely a bad idea. There was no way melati could gabung a crew of pirates. They were all dishonest and dirty. She now suddenly wished she hadn't come. Maybe she should just leave now.

No. She couldn't turn back. James needed her.

"Not what anda were expecting...?" the woman guessed.

melati shook her head. "No. Although, I suppose I shouldn't be surprised. I need a crew who isn't afraid to look for the missing princess and I was told this was the best place to find such a crew."

The woman's face became serious. "They say the place her ship went down is haunted. No one goes there; not even pirates."

"My fiancee did and now he's missing. I have to find him."

"You're crazy. Someone like anda shouldn't be out chasing ghosts. You'll get yourself killed."

"I have to find my fiancee," melati repeated, sternly.

Now the woman laughed. "That's pretty brave talk coming from a princess in an evening gown."

"I don't have anything else to wear..."

The woman shrugged. "Well, good luck. No one's going to take anda seriously, princess."

"Can anda help me? I can pay you."

The woman bit her lip in thought. "All right. I think I can get anda some new clothes. But, that's all I can do."

"Thank you," melati told her. "What is your name?"

The woman pushed off the lamp post and started walking down the street. "Megara." She glanced back at melati over her shoulder. "But, anda can call me Meg."

"I'm Jasmine."

Meg didn't say anything until they came to a run-down brick building. There were only a few of windows; most of them were dark and one of them had shattered glass. Meg pushed open the wooden door and motioned for melati to follow her. melati took a deep breath and stepped inside. It was so dark inside, melati could hardly see.

"Megara, who is this?" a male voice demanded from the dark.

"This is Jasmine."

"Is she going to be joining us?" the man asked.

"Not a chance. She just needs a change of clothes."

"This isn't a store, Megara."

"It's just one outfit."

The man lit a match. When he held the match up to his cigar, melati caught a glimpse of him. He had a long face, with a pointed nose and sharp teeth. His yellows eyes met Jasmine's and she felt uneasy. He reached over and lit a candle with the match and then shook it out. He was dressed all in black and he blended in with the shadows.

Meg took Jasmine's hand and led her away from the man. They walked up a dimly lit staircase and down to a room. Meg lit a lantern that hung from the ceiling. The room was small and only consisted of an unmade tempat tidur and a dresser. Meg walked over to the dresser and started rifling through the drawers. She handed melati a pair of black pants, and an under bust corset and a white peasant kemeja to wear under the corset.

"Put these on," Meg instructed. "You'll fit in better."

melati took the clothes. She waited for Meg to leave so she could change, but Meg stayed put. melati hesitantly undressed and put the new clothes on. melati had never worn pants before and was uncomfortable in such tight clothing. Meg laughed at Jasmine's awkwardness and handed her a pair of calf-high, heeled boots.

"Is this where anda live?" melati asked Meg as she laced up her boots.

"I work here," Meg replied.

"And that man downstairs..."

"That's Hades; he's my boss."

melati took some money out of her coin tas, dompet and handed it to Meg. "Thank anda for your clothes."

Meg tucked the money into her corset. "Don't mention it."

"I guess I'll be on my way."

Meg walked melati out. "Good luck, princess. You're going to need it."
"Good luck, princess. You're going to need it."

 “Angie. Angie, sweetie.”
“Angie. Angie, sweetie.”
Belle smiled to herself as she finished stacking the last shelfload of books. It was almost time to shut up shop, so she leaned down the ladder and addressed the small, fair haired girl sitting with her nose deep in a book.

“Angie. Angie, sweetie.”

The girl looked up. “Sorry, Mama, did anda say something?”

“It’s nearly time to go.”

“Oh, but I’m in the middle of this great book-”

“Then anda can take it with you. I’m sure Mr Bookkeeper won’t mind.” Belle slid down the ladder and held out her hand. “Come on, let’s go home.”

Obediently, Angelique closed the book, got...
