'Buffy the Vampire Slayer': Warner Bros. sinks fangs into reboot

Today, Warner Bros. announced plans to remake 1992′s Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which gave birth to the much-loved Sarah Michelle Gellar-headed TV series (which we all still worship unashamedly).

While details are sparse, filmmakers claim the movie would not revisit the vampire slayer’s high school days, attempting instead to capture the “witty, tough, and sexy” heroine in a new way. The team behind the project includes Dark Knight producer Charles Roven and relative newcomer Whit Anderson. The movie could hit theaters in 2012 atau late 2011, according to the L.A. Times.

What do anda say, readers? Is it time to bring Buffy back from the dead?

AcidBanter I don't think so. If they were gonna make a new vampire slayer film/tv, wouldn't it make more sense to make it a different character all together? Start a new and create your own world from there?

Asvini I don't think I could be more irritated by the idea of this Jossless 'Buffy' movie. No Joss = no Buffy as far as I'm concerned. It isn't Buffy, it's lazy filmmakers cashing in on a character without using any of the talent that made it worthwhile in the first place. It wont have any of the writers, cast or even characters from the show (aside from Buffy herself). I dislike the whole idea, and as much as I love Buffy, I wouldn't dream of paying to see this movie.

LovingLucy It does not say it's using a new director. Whit Anderson will probably be Buffy.

Mermaid-Tail ^ They are using a new director, nobody from the show will be involved. Joss wasn't just the director of Buffy, he was the creator and head writer, and this reboot is being done without his consent or involvement. I really hoped they would drop this reboot when they saw how strongly so much of the fanbase reacted against it. All I hope now is that it doesn't damage the reputation of the character or show. I will not be watching it myself.

Asvini He wouldn't if he had a choice, they didn't give him a say. The people behind this were producers of the original Buffy movie Joss wrote, so they have some rights to the Buffy character, meaning they can make a movie featuring her without Joss' permission. They can only use things from the movie though, so nothing original to the show.

fanfly When I first heard the idea of the reboot I was slightly amenable to it. I mean it's more Buffy, right? The sanity has set in though and I realize it SUCKS IN ALL CAPS. No way in any hell dimension can they possibly make it as good as Joss did.

JoeLaveau Buffy the TV show is my favorite TV show ever. I actually didn't like the movie. If they want to try and get the movie right I'm not too upset.
