I diposting this over on tumblr too.

So I was membaca Shadow of Kyoshi and I found two little things that pertain to the upbringing and social rules of the api Nation. The first is, “Avatar Szeto was an ideal for us officials to live up to, and a shining example of api Nation values in general. Efficiency, precision, and loyalty.” And the detik is, “I Know it sounds frivolous and wasteful but appearances matter in the palace. api Nation nobles dress and act to represent their clan affiliation and rank. Our peers notice our smallest choices and assign meaning and intentions to them.”

I think that both of these serve as lebih proof that Azula is the product of her upbringing and environment. The api Nation is a stern and hostile place to be raised in, especially for nobility and royalty. And I think that this is a huge factor in why Azula is the way she is. It’s why I don’t like it when people call her a sociopath. I would argue that she has a very deep understanding of people and societal etiquette but on a very political level. She was so awkward at the party because the lower class operates rather differently than the nobility does.

So I’ll get into the first quote first because I think that there is less to unpack there. I think that Azula embodies api Nation ideals just as much as Szeto. But she is what happens when those values are twisted, bastardized, and corrupted. Azula was raised on the aforementioned values but oleh the time her era of the api Nation came about, the corruption was well and festering. For it, she learned to be efficient, precise, and loyal but in a lebih sinister way. oleh all means Azula is all of these things; she is dangerously efficient (conquering Ba Sing Se while gaining important intel), she is precise (this has been quoted in canon), and she is loyal. Her loyalty lies with Ozai and her Nation.

This loyalty is what makes her a lebih grey antagonist. I think that Azula truly thought that she was doing right. And oleh all means she was doing right oleh her people as far as she was concerned. The problem is that what was best for the api Nation was detrimental to the other Nations, hence why it is perceived as evil. I think that deep down Azula wanted to bring glory and honor to her nation and per her nation’s values, she was doing good.

This loyalty though was also twisted oleh Ozai. Because, perhaps lebih than she was to her nation, Azula was loyal to him. His twisted ideals and values were projected onto and ingrained into her until they became her own. And this is what I think lead her to the darker side of things. Ozai was a corrupt lead her and the corruption, via Azula’s loyalty to him, spread to her.

But this wasn’t the only thing that lead to Azula becoming Azula. The detik quote is a very good example of exactly why the princess is such a perfectionist. It is noted that appearance is heavily regarded in the api Nation, specifically in the palace. The palace where Azula was born and raised. This is why one hair out of place is so devesting to Azula. Ozai isn’t the only one who drilled perfection into her. The api Nation as a whole has done this. She was brought up in a place where "peers notice our smallest choices.” Where the teeniest details are scrutinized. Azula was raised in an environment where she constantly had to be aware all the time. She literally could not just be a child. Especially not with a father like Ozai who was hellbent on weaponizing her too. From the start she was groomed for war and politics. And part of this grooming probably included putting a large emphasis on her physical appearance to the point where one hair out of place is means for concern.

Because one hair out of place can indicate weakness (”and assign meaning and intentions to them”). Everything Azula did at public functions and war meetings would be analyzed oleh potential foes and so every detail needed to be worked out; every action, every clothing article, every hairpiece.

Combining this with the need for precision and efficacy, anda have a very dangerous combo. With all of the above in mind two things are apparent for me; that it’s no wonder Azula finally cracked and fell apart and that she isn’t an inherently evil/socially inept person. She is literally an embodiment of her Nation’s values and societal rules. People constantly say that she is an extension of Ozai and his views; I do agree with this. But I think that it goes beyond that; she is an extension of the api Nation as a whole and the corruption within it, not just of Ozai.

Another burning sensation fired its way, white-hot, up and down Azula’s body. It was as if she’d accidently set her own body aflame. She clutched her blankets tightly and bit her cheek, so not to cry out.

Her skin felt moist and clammy, her strength seeming to trickle out with each bead of sweat—leaving her with a contradicting cold sensation. A feeling of emptiness, as if her own flame was flickering out. Slowly and agonizingly.

Despite her best efforts, a small whimper slid through her parted lips.

It didn’t matter.

No one was around to hear it.

She couldn’t risk the company. All...

Azula’s state was lebih than fragile. He was only doing what he thought was best at the time. She was still chained to the iron gate when they arrived to take her away. This was her third major break since the comet—fourth if one included the one on the hari of the comet. Zuko forced himself to watch; she was still putting up a fight—a good one at that. Screaming fire, jerking violently, attempting to bite them if they got close enough.

She looked like an animal…an animal that had found the body of a human and took it over. She was nothing like the calm and collected Azula he knew.

Eventually...

Alright so this was so so hard for me to type. Like I made an artikel for my puncak, atas 5 Azula moments, I wanted to make one for my least favorites. Everyone knows I cinta her so it was so hard to pick least favorites, I really did have to pick my brain on this one. This is like Noglosia Critic's picking the worst of the best.

1. Along the same lines I didn't like seeing her fight Mai and Ty-Lee in the Boiling Rock. I suppose this is lebih of a scene with Azula that I don't like lebih than an Azula moment. That trio was a fabulous trio and it is a darn shame that it came to and end. I also feel like...

There will be spoilers of parts in the episode Sozin's Comet. So I suggest anda watch that episode before membaca this.

I need to calm down. I've been upset too much in this amount of time.

What is wrong with me?

Where did that come from? I REALLY need to calm down. I'm thinking things that I can't control, like thinking about....

I'm not going to say it.

My mother.

*sigh* of course I thought it. I would be so happy, not remembering her, but the thought of her hating me..

My own mother hated me.

My own mother..

Well, it's time to get ready for my coronation.

Wait until mom sees my now! The new fire...

There will be spoilers, and anda might want to start with part one.

Keep in mind that this is just a fanfiction, and that Azula's thoughts and scenes in between Sozin's comet never happened.

Azula was still thinking. He won't deny me, I'm the Princess! I'll get it out of my head, what to say, what to say...?
Then she spoke: "Sorry I'm late, father. Good palanquin bearers are so hard to come oleh these days. So, is everything ready for our departure?"

Then she heard the words that made her die a little inside. No, not a little, a lot.

"There has been a change of plans, Azula."

It can still be good....

First of all, please keep in mind that this is my own opinion and that my favorit episodes may not be even close to yours. Anyways, enjoy the article! :)
Also, of course, there will be spoilers, so if anda have not watched the series and plan to in the future, I suggest anda don't read this until you're watched the series.

10. The Beach: I cinta this episode because anda get to know lebih about characters like Ty Lee, Mai, and Azula. It shows anda how complex their personalities are. I also cinta Li and Lo in this episode, even though they don't play a big part in it. I cinta the part where they go...

It was a soothing sound. The water lapping against the stones.

Azula picked at a loaf of bread—contrary to populer belief, she’d stopped chucking whole loaves of roti at the penyu, kura-kura ducks when she was about ten. She flicked a chink into the water and watched as the turtleducks flocked to it.

6:00 was always Azul’s favorit time of day. She found a sort of secret enjoyment in watching the hari close. The warna were always so warm and vibrant.

She let herself fall back into the grass, dark hair fanning out around her. It wasn’t too hot nor too cold. A sunset in July, at least around these...
