I like Blake. He seemed to enjoy having company with our six cousins, and they all looked excited to do whatever they were going to do tonight. That reminded me: what exactly were we doing? I had no idea. I decided to just forget about it and enjoy the rest of the day. We all ran out back and explored th backyard. Past the shed were woods like the ones we traversed to get to Blake's. I guess they were all around us. Dark and inviting and creepy.
We had a few hours to run around outside, then we were called in for supper. Jeb stood oleh the creaky back door with a plate filled with sandwiches. Everyone took one and we all gathered around the little red picnic meja out back.
"I plan to get a little meat on both your bones," Leila teased, eyeing us. I looked down at my small body. It wasn't my fault I was so skinny. I just ate whatever I wanted and burned all the calories and lebih running on the track and riding horseback and shooting bows and arrows. Claire did the same.
makan malam was delicious. It didn't take long for everyone's paper plate to be clean. Jess took everyone's plate and threw it in the trash barrel oleh the house. We all stood up. Jeb suggested we play for a little while more, then wash up and go to bed.
Fireflies started to flicker and glow as they zipped oleh all around us. I couldn't help but smile. This is what summer is, I thought.
Makayla ran all over the yard with a jar, trying to capture a bunch of fireflies. Unfortunately, she wasn't quite fast enough to keep them all in their prison.
Finally, Joey yelled at the puncak, atas of his lungs that it was time to go to bed.
As we were filing up the stairs, Tim and Amelia pulled us aside.
"Listen, we need anda two ready to leave at quarter of midnight. anda need running shoes atau boots, shorts, a t-shirt, and a sweatshirt. Also, a flashlight is forbidden. Blake and I are the only ones to have flashlights." Tim berkata in my ear, speaking a mile a minute. Amelia gripped my shoulders. "Got it?" I nodded, and she let go so I could leave. Tim told my sister the same.
Once we got up to our rooms, we each sat on our beds, staring wide-eyed at each other.
"What could we possibly be doing in the middle of the night with them and Blake?" she asked nervously. I sat on her left and pulled my right arm around her.
"I don't know. It must be some sort of game. It's gonna be okay." I replied calmly. "Let's just get a little sleep for now, okay?" Claire nodded. I pulled her blankets back and let her crawl in. Once she was situated, I turned off the lamp on her bedside table. I leaned back on my bed, fingers interlocked behind my head. I could not fall asleep. I was too worked up about this thing. Why couldn't we have flashlights? Why did they need flashlights in the first place? I went over the keterangan of our outfit. Running shoes atau boots. That determined we would be on uneven footing and would be doing a lot of moving around. Shorts. Obviously. It was almost July. Who would wear long pants in this weather? No matter.
A t-shirt, of course. I pretty much only had t-shirts, save a few tanktops for hot days and several blouses for special occasions. The switer lengan panjang, kaus must have been for if and when it got cold.
I put it together. Shoes for running over rough terrain, shorts for the heat, a simple shirt, a switer lengan panjang, kaus to stay warm....we were headed to one place. And that was the woods.

It's sad
It's the truth
Fighting through what it is
But I'll be stronger
I've gone through
Mounds of pain
I've been through
The deepest waters
Nobody can change my past
It's the truth, and it changed me
Sad to even hear the truth
Sad to...say the truth
Reality's always sad
And no one's gonna escape it.
It's how I became who I am today
It's how I didn't brag.
Why does this have to happen?
Why did it have to end?
Why does the world have to be so confusing?
Why did the fun have to end?
The world's just a crazy place
And no one's gonna stop that thought
Cause I'm broken for good...
Because of...the truth.
