While ‘Westworld’s first season ended with an epic bang on Dec. 4, some fans believe that all is not lost for Dr. Ford (Anthony Hopkins), the character who supposedly met his maker in the final moments of the episode. Here’s the theory that has us believing Ford might still be alive.
Though things may have ended on a high note for the robots in the shocking season one finale of
on Dec. 4, thanks to Dolores Abernathy (Evan Rachel Wood) finally becoming self aware and getting the robot uprising party started, she
kill Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins) in the process. So, the humans are down one VERY important character. Or are they? Thanks to a new theory making the rounds, fans are starting to believe Ford will be back in season two of the breakout HBO series.
So, here’s the deal. With all the crazy timeline madness and constant guessing over who was a host and who wasn’t all season, it is a very real possibility that when Dolores shot Ford in the back of the head she
shot a host. Dun, dun, dun. After all, though Ford seemed to be offering himself up as a sacrifice so he could make amends for not listening to Arnold (Jeffrey Wright) about letting the hosts go free 30 years earlier, the mastermind does not appear to be someone who’d really take a bullet (we had to) for the robots. He’s just way too into his little world and his creations to give it all up cold turkey. But, creating a doppelgänger robot in his secret lab to die in his place is just the kind of thing he would do. And there
a new robot being built in there mid-season. Hmm.
However, the biggest piece of evidence backing this theory is one that you may have totally missed in the finale. Before he took the stage to give the speech that would proceed his death, Ford said goodbye to Bernard (again, Jeffrey) with a handshake that lasted an awkward amount of time and seemed to have confused Bernard. And, if you recall (like us crazy
fanatics do) Ford told Bernard way back in the premiere that the first generation hosts were so fake that, “a simple handshake would give them away.” Just something to think about until the show comes back. We know we’ll be obsessing over it till then.
