Perhaps due to the fact that in the original story musketeers have swords, and the animators decided at the last moment the movie tampil them as true musketeers.
I think that the Musketeers were meant to all have swords originally, but that would make the fight scene pretty boring... so I think that their weapons were added to give variety to the scene.
