Chapter 8: Time has brought your jantung to me
Celine found herself in the bathroom once again, sitting on the cold floor. Paul had already left early for work and she had been throwing up multiple times since he left. In her hands she was holding a little box that could change her entire life. Even though she already knew the answer, she was still scared to open it. Come on Celine, she thought to herself. Just do it. Don't be such a coward. She opened the package and decided to go to the bathroom one lebih time. Her hands were trembling. Why were they trembling? Paul should've been here. But he wasn't because somehow she thought she needed to find it out for herself first.
Okay, here we go, she inspirited herself. One, two, three…
Meanwhile, Richard and Paul were grabbing a cup of coffee oleh themselves for once. Pedro and Peter had to get back to their regular lives for a while, which meant the planning of world's greatest bachelor party was currently on hold.
"Dude, that's messed up." Paul decided. Richard agreed with him: "I know. I can't decide what's worse: our parents denying our happiness, atau Jack's master plan to basically destroy my life."
Paul tried to reassure him: "They will come around. As for Jack, I kind of feel bad for him.” Richard raised his eyebrows. Paul further explained himself: "There's no way he can beat you, right? You're the king."
Richard laughed relieved: "Thanks mate. It's just all so tiresome, anda know? I feel like ever since Rachel & I got engaged, we barely had any time to breath." Paul stirred in his coffee and reflected about this for a while.
"You're right," he finally berkata as he threw a set of keys on the table.
Richard picked them up and looked at them thoroughly. "What's this?” he wondered. “Wait are these..." Paul decided to finish his sentence: "The keys to my grandfather's 1963 Porsche. It was a gift for my 18th birthday."
"But anda cinta that car lebih than anything." Richard remembered. "Technically I cinta Celine lebih than anything, but the car is close second.” Paul smiled.
“I only ride it on special occasions, and I truly think anda and Rachel definitely deserve a special occasion." "Wow. Thank anda Paul, I really appreciate it" Richard genuinely said. “I think I might just know something special.”
“I'm here! I'm here!” Rachel screamed as she entered Celine's apartment. “What's the big emergency?” Celine was sitting on the dipan, sofa with her head buried in her hands.
She turned towards Rachel and silently said: “I'm pregnant.” “You're what?” Rachel exclaimed. "I'm pregnant." Celine repeated.
"Oh my God. So, it's true then?" Rachel gasped.
'Yeah,” she confirmed.” “I took a test this morning and it came out positive."
"Celine! I am so happy for you! This is amazing!” she screamed. “What did Paul say?" Celine looked down for a while and replied: "He doesn't know yet."
Rachel shook her head in confusion: "What do anda mean he doesn't know? How can he not know?"
Celine sighed: "Because I haven't told them yet."
Rachel was even lebih confused now. "Okay, so let me get this straight. You're pregnant, and the first person anda share the big news with is me and not, oh I don't know let's say your fiancé?"
Celine looked at her in distress. "Rachel, I'm scared. I don't know what to do!"
Rachel shook her head. "Scared of what? Of Paul?"
"No, not of Paul.” she whispered. “I don't know, maybe? I'm scared of how he will react, how things will change because of this. And then there's my parents and Hayden and this is just all really bad timing!" Rachel grabbed her oleh the shoulders. "Okay, first of all, anda need to relax. I don't know much about pregnancy stuff, but I'm sure stressing out isn't the answer. Now, when Paul comes home, you're going to tell him the big news and he's going to be genuinely happy.” Celine was about to say something but Rachel wasn’t finished yet: “How do I know this? I know this because he loves anda and I just know there's nothing he would cinta lebih than to start a family with you."
"You really think so?" Celine asked concerned. "I'm certain of it.” she replied. Then when you’re done akting all lovey-dovey, anda are going to tell Richard and I the big news. And I am going to act surprised like this whole conversation never happened. That's what you're going to do."
Celine felt a little bit better after the encouraging words of her friend. "Thank anda Rachel. You're the best." "I know.” she smirked Now get your pregnant pantat, keledai over here." As she was hugging her friend, Celine felt like things might work out after all.
Paul was enjoying his lunch in a little café down the jalan, street when he suddenly saw Hayden entering and walking towards him.
Oh god please no, he thought to himself.
“Paul! Imagine seeing anda here.” Hayden berkata over-excited.
“Seriously, what makes anda think anda can actually talk to me right now?” Paul responded. “Wow, what’s with the hostility dude?” Hayden asked.
Oh, I don’t know. Let’s see. Maybe the fact that you’re harassing my girl to get her back!” Paul snarled.
“Ah, so she told anda about our little encounter I assume?” Hayden remarked with the same grin on his face.
Paul couldn’t help but burst out a laugh. “Oh course she did! What did anda think? That anda could break us up oleh her not telling me about you? We’re not in high school anymore Hayden, grow the hell up!”
“Are anda afraid of a little competition?” Hayden demanded to know.
“There is no competition. And I’m not afraid of anything. anda on the other hand, should be afraid that I don’t meninju, pukulan anda right in the face the selanjutnya time I see you.” Paul growled.
“Threatening with violence?” he stated. “Ouch, Celine would cinta that.”
The lebih Hayden spoke, the angrier Paul got. “You don’t have the right to even think about what she would like! anda were the one who broke her heart, remember?”
“I did.” Hayden admitted. “And it was the biggest mistake of my life.”
“Then I guess you’ll just have to learn how to live with it and leave us the hell alone.” Paul decided it was time for him to leave, and threw some money on the counter. While he was walking towards the door, Hayden yelled back at him: “Her father will never accept you, anda know! He has wanted me to be his son-in-law for years!” Paul turned his back and calmly said: “You keep telling that yourself if it makes anda feel better.”
“For what it’s worth I got no problem with you, Paul.” he finally said. “You’re a cool dude. But the jantung just wants what it wants. I’m sure anda out of all people understand that.”
Oh bite me, Paul mumbled as he turned his back again.
Rachel was just about to call Richard as he beat her to it.
"Hey honey, I was just thinking about you.” she smiled through the phone. “Where are you?"
"I had to take a small redirection. Look outside." he suggested.
As Rachel walked towards the window, she noticed her handsome man coming out of a red vehicle, carrying a bundle of her favorit flowers.
"What do anda think?" he inquired.
"I think anda look very dapper,” she admitted. “But where did anda get that car?"
"Paul let me borrow it,” he confessed.
"He lent anda his car? Rachel raised her eyebrows. “That's definitely a first."
"I guess he must really trust us then.” Richard opined. “Now, put on that pretty blue dress of yours. I'll be waiting for anda down here."
"What for?" Rachel questioned. "I'm taking anda out on a date." he declared with a big smile.
"We can't go out on a date,” Rachel thought. “We got things to take care of: Jack and the company, my dad..."
Richard interrupted "And unfortunately, they will still be here tomorrow. As for now, I think anda and I deserve some fun. So I’m going to take anda out on a date. Get ready so I can ciuman that beautiful face of yours."
Realizing he was right, she finally said: "Give me 5 minutes."
Celine felt like her head was about to explode as she was waiting for Paul to come home. She decided to call the person who has always been able to ease her mind when she felt like this.
“Hey sis, what’s up?” she heard at the other end of the phone.
“Hi Andrew. I’m calling anda to ask anda something.” she started.
“Sure, what is it?” he wanted to know.
Celine thought about her pertanyaan carefully. “When anda told mom and dad anda didn’t want to go to law school, like they had planned, how did they cope with that?”
“You’re going to law school?” Andrew asked playfully.
“What? No, just answer the question.” she demanded.
“Well, they weren’t happy, I can tell anda that. Dad was pretty pissed actually.” he remembered. “How did anda manage for them to get over it?” Celine continued asking.
“Well, I told them that I want define my life with the things that I love. And if that didn’t match the picture they had in their heads, then that’s just their problem.” he narrated. “They can always give me saran Cel, but in the end, I decide for myself how I want to live, anda know. Did that answer your pertanyaan a little bit?”
“Yeah, it kind of did. Thanks little bro.” Celine meant.
“Anytime sis. Hey, is everything okay? I mean, there must be reason for anda to ask me this.” he questioned.
“Yeah, I’m fine.” she said. “I’ll fill anda in later. But there’s something else I have do first.”
Rachel couldn’t keep her eyes off of Richard. They had been driving for a while now, but she enjoyed every detik of it. How was it possible for him to even look lebih handsome now than he already did before? With the wind blowing through his hair and the sunlight framing his perfect face, it was like she was falling in cinta with him all over again.
“Rach, why do anda keep staring at me?” Richard asked her.
“Mmmhh?” She was so busy with her thoughts; she didn’t even hear the question. “Do I have something on my face?” he wondered. “You keep staring at me.” “No, I was just thinking. Sitting here with anda in this car, I just feel so aman, brankas and invincible.” While grabbing her hand, Richard smiled at her and spoke: “I would drive to the end of the world with you, babe. I cinta anda so much” “I cinta anda too.” she replied with a quick kiss. “Speaking of the end of the world, are we there yet?”
“Now that anda mention it, I need anda to cover your eyes with this.” he sniggered as he pulled a piece of black fabric out of his pocket.
“Are anda serious? Richard, this is so cliché.” Rachel growled.
“I know.” he admitted. “Now put it on.”
"Smells good in here.” Paul noticed when he entered the apartment. “What's the occasion?"
"Italian. I am making anda Italian." Celine replied. Soon enough she realized that wasn't the answer to his pertanyaan at all.
"Well that's great, because I am starving." he exclaimed.
That's good, she thought to herself. When she was a little girl, her mother always told her to never tell atau ask a man something dramatic when he has an empty stomach. She couldn’t believe she was now actually taking her up on that advice.
“Be careful where anda step.” Richard warned Rachel as he was helping her to get out of the car. “Where the hell are we?” she insisted to know.
“Just a few lebih steps.” he promised.
As Richard took her bandage of, Rachel had to adjust to the light for a bit, but she soon enough realized where she was. The beautiful view, the green grass… She used to come here every hari when her mother passed away. It had been years.
“Primrose Hill.” she whispered. “Richard, why did anda bring me here?”
“I kind of have a confession to make.” he responded. “Rach, when anda and I first met, it wasn’t the first time I had seen you, nor was it the second, atau third time.” “What do anda mean?” Rachel raised her eyebrows.
Richard held her hands in his own as he began his story: “When I first came here a few years back with some friends, I noticed a beautiful blonde girl sitting on that bench over there.” he pointed. “She looked very sad, but was still oh so beautiful. I couldn’t keep my eyes off of her; it was like I was being drawn to her. My friends kept teasing me about it, daring me to ask her out, but somehow I couldn’t do it. And then suddenly she was gone. I went back the selanjutnya day, hoping, praying, that I would see her again. And there she was. Still sitting on that same bench, with the same sad expression on her face. Just like the hari before, I couldn’t walk up to her. Oddly enough, the same thing happened the selanjutnya day, and the days to come. One day, when I finally had the courage, I decided ask to have a little picnic with me. But she wasn’t there anymore. And I never saw her on that bench again. Today, after all of those years, I hope I finally get to have that picnic with her I always dreamt of having.” Rachel hadn’t noticed her eyes were getting filled with tears. “It was you,” she silently said.
“What was?” Richard questioned.
Rachel decided to explain it without sobbing. “When my mom died, I came here everyday. Mainly to avoid all of the people around me, but also because somehow it was the only place where I felt I could breath again. I know it sounds strange, but while I was here, I felt like there was this guardian malaikat looking at me, convincing me it was all going to be okay, which it eventually did. I used to believe my mom was that guardian angel, but now I know it wasn’t. It was anda all along. anda were there for me when I needed someone the most. And I can’t believe I didn’t even knew you...”
Richard grabbed her face with his hands and started ciuman her passionately.
“I always knew we were meant to be.” Richard whispered as they continued.
"That was seriously delicious sweetheart.” Paul complimented. “Now, anda want to tell me what's wrong?" Paul’s remark startled Celine. "Why would anda say that? Nothing is wrong. I’m fine. I am peachy."
"Peachy?" he repeated with frowned eyebrows.
"Yeah, peachy." Celine insisted.
"It's Hayden, isn't it?” he sighed.
"What? No I haven't seen since that last time I told anda about him." Celine comforted him. Relieved but still worried he inquired: "Then what is it? You've been giving me these look all night."
"That's just because I cinta anda so much," she claimed.
"And I cinta anda too, which is why anda need to tell me what's bothering you." Paul maintained.
Celine knew she wouldn't be able to tell Paul the news directly so she decided to membungkus, bungkus her pregnancy test as a present. As if that would make things any easier.
"Open this" she berkata kind of awkwardly.
"What is this?” Paul asked confused. “Oh my God. Did I forget something? Our anniversary? I should've known with the cooking and, I'm so sorry!"
Celine chuckled a little. "No babe, anda didn't forget anything."
Even lebih confused, he subsequently asked: "Okay, are we celebrating something then?"
"Life, I guess." Celine berkata while shrugging her shoulders.
Paul opening the present seemed to last endlessly. When he finally managed to get the ribbon off and opened the box, he looked at the strange plastic thing in confusion for a while. "What is this? Is this? Are you, wait, are we... pregnant?"
"We're pregnant." she confirmed as a tear rolled down her cheek.
Paul couldn't find the right words to respond with, but he immediately gave her a ciuman instead and embraced her so hard she could barely breath anymore. "Does this mean you're happy?" she doubted in anticipation.
"Happy?" Paul exclaimed. He was crying. Celine couldn't even remember the last time she had seen him cry. "I am thrilled!" he screamed. "But Paul, what are we going to do?” Celine anxiously asked. “I mean we're not married yet and my parents are going to kill me, well, probably anda first and”… Paul interrupted her: "That all doesn't matter. What matters are anda and I and our little baby," He smiled while putting his hands on her stomach. "We're going to have a family! I’ve never been so happy. I cinta anda so much." Celine felt so relieved when she heard those words she wanted to needed to hear "I cinta anda too,” she smiled back while tearing up again. And this time, they were happy tears.
“Why did anda wait this long to tell me this story?” Rachel wondered while grabbing a piece of cake. They were finally enjoying their picnic together on Primrose Hill, watching the sunset.
“I don’t know, I guess because I thought anda would find it creepy?” Richard figured. “I mean, anda got to admit, I was basically stalking you.”
“That’s what every girl secretly wants.” Rachel sniffed as they both started laughing.
“You know, I’m sad that my mom can’t experience all of the good things that are happening in my life with me anymore, but I like to believe she was the one who brought anda to me. I’m sure she would’ve loved you,” she declared while smiling with her eyes.
“I like to believe that too.” Richard agreed while taking his cinta in his arms.
