Here are some facts I came across:

The growing acceptance of South Korean pop culture as a valid form of entertainment in many parts of the world has prompted the government of South Korea to use the Korean Wave as a tool for soft power. Ultimately, the government hopes that the acceptance of South Korean culture in foreign countries

South Korea's Ministry of Culture set up a cultural industry bureau to develop its media sector. The result is the K-pop industry can pretty much do what ever they feel they can get away with.

"In the 21st century, culture is power...Together with the Korean people we will foster a new cultural renaissance atau a culture that transcends ethnicity and languages, overcomes ideologies and customs, contributes to the peaceful development of humanity, and is connected oleh the ability to share happiness."

—South Korean president Park Geun-hye

South Korea's biggest production companies:

SM Entertainment: founded oleh Lee Soo-Man in 1995. SM is the leader of the Korean Wave.
YG Entertainment: founded oleh Yang Hyun-Suk in March 1996.
JYP Entertainment: founded oleh Park Jin Young in April 1996

The musik part of the industry is dominant with large corporations running the show. It's all wrapped up in the branding of big business and kids trained to be idols are the perfect renewable sumber of revenue.

Harshest is the norm for the Korea’s pop industry, which trains and regulates the lives of its subjects to such an extent that the industry uses extremely rigorous training and diet plans on their serfs. The K-Pop industry entirely controlls the lifes as if they were serfs from the middle ages.

K-pop entertainers cannot call atau hang out with friends. Of course no boyfriends.” Their rigorous contracts cast them into the position of puppets rather than individuals . They are serfs to a system that is so big and lucrative that management uses contact clauses as the club always over their heads at all times.

I read somewhere that the Fair Trade Committee’s inspection of some 20 entertainment agencies, many unlawful clauses were found in the artists’ contracts, such as “The bintang must tell the Agency of their exact location at all times,” atau “If the bintang decides to batal his/her contract, the bintang must stop all activities relating to atau resulting from the Star’s celebrity status.”

Contracts can last from 5 to 10 years. So success stories like Girl Generation were built on the back of so-called slave contracts, which tied its trainee-stars into long exclusive deals, with little control atau financial reward. Training has no fixed duration can be months atau up to 7 years. Many teens do not make it.

Good hari to all.
