Mostly true; if I see I do have a message in my Inbox, I will click on that rather than the "updates" link. When checking my updates, I look for Articles, then Comments, then Forum updates. Then, after checking my updates, I'll look at the recently posted Articles list and then Answer requests with one or zero answers.
