Most fictional naga are carnivorous. However, there are some omnivorous species as well. naga produce flame oleh way of a gland deep in thed throat. (The gland is also responsible for their smoky scent) When a dragon flames, a flammable compound produced oleh the gland coats the beast's mouth. The compound ignites when in contact with air, producing the flames. As the dragon exhales, thed flames follow its breath.
anda are wrong with the whole moonlght thing. if naga did eat material food, wouldn't they starve to death. from a drago expert (not, i just know a lot about dragon)
They are carnivorous, but in two series with naga that I've read (Inheritance and Dragon Riders of Pern), the naga also eat some sort of plant that helps with api breathing.

In Dragonriders of Pern, it's fire-stone that they eat. "phosphine-bearing mineral which naga chew to produce flame." (From the "Some Terms of Interest" section.)
