If she is remembered as a war hero it shouldn't matter if she was a male or female because clearly both are capable if doing what she did. If she went out and said "I am a woman" then it shows that what she did for china was for her benefit (proving women are just as good to men) then trying to do something noble as to prevent her father from dieing at war leaving their family at a lesser state. Its not so much as a risk to revel her true sex but more of the point that it wasn't her intention of trying to defy a set of standards but just to prevent her father from dieing and through any means possible.
