I liked the idea of a new Disney film being set in the 20s. However I think it would of worked better with a different plot, I wish PATF was very different to how it turned out.

Accually, it was set 100 years before the present time so it took place in 1909

^^No, it was the nineteen twenties. I have the D23 magazine that says so on my coffee table. I know about the turn of the century, and flapper dresses, bowler hats, and bob cuts weren't it.

I LOVE the 1900-1950 era. So anything set during that time is fine by me. Plus, there was an excuse to use jazz!

From imdb.com...

"The prologue takes place in November of 1912, as indicated by the newspaper with the headline "Wilson Elected" (referring to President Woodrow Wilson) being read by a streetcar passenger."

^^So, since Tiana's 5 or 6 there, then she'd definately be 18-21 in the 1920s.

I hardly noticed it was set in that time period. I thought the setting and plot was way more modernized than it should have been...

I like the idea, but I don`t love it. I think it was neccesary to make a movie action in 1920`s because before this time I guess it would be a story about slaves or so... I mean the places in America were colonizated and its citizens were taken to Europe as slaves.

@LionaChoco: Huh? I think you're confused. No one from the Americas were taken to Europe as slaves. The Spaniards tried to enslave Tainos on plantations in the Caribbean, but if failed because they escaped too easily. People from Africa were captured by neighboring tribes and sold to the "white men" as slaves (sometimes the Europeans went solo and captured the Africans themselves, which is what you hear about most). From there they went to the Caribbean and North America to work on plantations. Slavery was actually outlawed in Europe long before it was in America.

I'm shocked at how many people didn't know it was the 1920s . . . I mean, it was advertised specifically as "set during the Jazz age in New Orleans". I guess not everyone saw those ads and previews.

@percyandpotter: Just out of curiosity, what made you think it was set in the 90s?

@firegirl1515- I was aware that it was the 20s, but it was just a small factor to the movie. Other than jazz, they didn't emphasize the time period at all, there was way more racism and segregation than displayed in the movie. I understand that PaTF is a kid's movie, but I mean... it was just an inaccurate representation of history.

^^Well, there was the whole "all the black people lived in log cabins on the outskirts of town" thing. And one of the Fenner Bros said that running a restaurant would be hard for a lady of her background, implying her race. Everyone knows she's friends with Charlotte, so I guess they didn't want to be blatant racists around her.
