putri disney Does anyone else think The Little Mermaid 2: Return To The Sea and Frozen are really similar? (My explanation on how they're so similar is in the comments)

I can’t believe I’m the only one so far that’s actually mentioning the similarities between Frozen and The Little Mermaid 2: Return To The Sea. First we have our bubbly protagonist (except Melody is awesome and Anna is annoying) that went through an event that almost killed them and their family has been hiding the truth about it ever since. Yeah, instead of telling the girls about what happened you decide to hide it instead of telling them about it, that’s smart. With Melody it’s more understandable because she’s a little girl and it’s really traumatizing to tell them that an evil octopus lady is out to get. But In Anna’s case it would make more sense to tell her so she can be aware, though the same could be said for Melody but Anna’s isn’t as traumatic and wouldn’t make her feel so awful! Both have big parties that end up being ruined (Melody is embarrassed and Elsa reveals her powers) and the plot starts to take conflict.

The main characters are also being deceived by the villain of the movie, who are just using them. The protagonist are accompanied by animal sidekicks one that’s cute and decently likeable (Dash and Sven) and an annoying one (Tip and Olaf), plus they end up meeting blonde guys that end up being their love interest (though with Melody it’s debatable with the merman) that are completely unnecessary, add nothing to the story, and have a romance that’s rushed and undeveloped.

The second most important female characters (Ariel and Elsa) are voice by two vocal powerhouses that are beloved by all Disney fans (Jodi Benson and Idina Menzel) and are later captured by the villains but escape. The protagonist is almost killed and it involved ice (Anna’s heart being frozen and Melody being trapped behind an ice wall while time is running out for her as a mermaid). The protagonist end up defeating the villains as they try to kill someone important to them (Morgana trying to kill Triton and Hans trying to kill Elsa), while being surrounded by snow or ice. Both movies end with taking care of the wall problems and bringing everyone in while they all have fun.

Even though most people will disagree, I personally I prefer Return To The Sea over Frozen. Yes it has its problems but not as much as Frozen does and has better character development and better characters for that matter.

I have to disagree with these. Those are opinions, not facts. I for one like Olaf better than Sven. And I don't find Anna annoying at all. *shrugs*

Other than that, I can see some similarities, but I don't think they're that alike.

I agree with Angelica, some of those are opinions in which I disagree with you, other than that I see what you mean.

No. I suppose you try to find the resemblance between Frozen and The Little Mermaid 2 just because Frozen is very successful and popular. XP

Nope, it's because I saw the similarities from the very first time I watched Frozen.
