Weeks went by. Deb tried her hardest on the Academy. She had caught up with the rest of the class, thanks to the help of some fellow classmates. Juliette hadn’t spoken to her since that first day. In fact, Juliette tried to avoid Deb as much as possible.
During breaks, Deb sought out the company of Deirdre and Scott, who were both very excited that she got into the Academy after all. They even gave her some scoop about what was to come in her detik year.
Because everything seemed to be working out for a change, Deb was reluctant to open the letter she had received this morning. There was no name on it. No address. She ripped the envelope and opened the piece of paper.
She held her breath, as she recognized Beth’s handwriting.
‘Dear Debbie,
Mom and Dad told me about your visit. I’m sorry I missed it. I hear you’re doing well. I’m so happy for you. I’m not doing so bad myself, either. As anda know, I left our halaman awal a while ago. I found a job as a waitress. I have a nice place to live.
I want anda to know that I’m not holding anything against you. There are no grudges. However, I’m not ready to meet anda face to face. That’s why I didn’t include an address. If anda want to respond to this letter, anda can send it to the place where we grew up. Mom and Dad will make sure I receive it.
Love,
Beth’
Deb folded the letter and held it against her chest. Everything was working out for a change. Little did she know that this letter was the beginning of a trap…
