"Depends" feels like such a cop-out answer, but it's true. I can't make a sweeping generalization with this statement. The thing is that religion has caused several great fissions in its time, but it has also brought people together.

EDIT: And to debs-- if everyone agreed, there'd be no individuality. It would be positively Orwellian.

okay i meant one specific thing e.g. if everyone thought comunism worked we would live in a harmounous society, if everyone thought capitallism worked we would live in harmounous society doesn't mean we're not individuals we would still all have different interests

same applies with religioun if we all agreed on one religioun it wouldn't break the world up and cause terrorism

I'm not saying we should ban religion and the different believes are fascinating and everything but it does break up the world, societies and even families.....no it doesn't always do it, but it does do it so i personally don't think the depends option applies....it either does or it doesn't lol

I don't think that it breaks up the world, as the world can only be broken if we let it. I think that it defines the type of person that you are and the type of thigs that you believe in.

I also think that people want to be part of a religion because it makes them feel reasured that they are not the only one thinking the way that they do.

If people don't argue about religion then the world would never be broken. Everyone is individual and therefore has a right to what they believe in. Disagreement only comes when people disrespect that right, and that it the imperfection of humanity.

Religion is standing up and speaking out for what you believe and i think that these days people tend to forget that. Respect eachother and we will never have a problem.

on how their take it some people block out of being friends with other people with religion or pick on them other's treast other religion people like their should.

It depends on the person's outlook upon someone else's, and their own, religion and/or belief system. If we could all except one another's religions, I don't think it would break us up like it does now.

Sometimes it brings us together (All religions have their similarities) and sometimes it tears us apart (a few wars have happened over religion)

I have met many people who take part in the world simply because of their families being highly religious and not giving them freedom to express themselves.

Yes actully, It brings hate in a way for pepole from diffrent religions and from the same too,It lack out the freedom of human being but Also agree with "greekthegeek" It has to do with the imperfection of the man also it's true that the creation of it came from relegion but not everyone is taking the goods from me it, as we see the man kind is is losing more and more of the humanity each day.

All religions have a similar moral code for the most part its just some people get mad because some people aren't the same religion as them.

People use religion to divide up the world. People also use money, skin color, gender, sexual orientation, jobs, location, and age to divide up the world.

I think its really exceptance or not. Muslims hate christians christians hate muslims and then theres me in the middle a mix of both! lol! Why cant we all just get along with eachother and cook some friendship soup or something!?

Religion in general is harmless, it's just a belief. A way of life. The way people choose to live does nothing to others. Having a religion in and of itself isn't wrong, nor harmful. Religion does not determine how dangerous you are, your ACTIONS do. I know a lot of people fall into the trap of associating religion with hate, war, murder and all that. And I get why, but we cannot let ourselves become blind to the bigger picture here. Having different beliefs was never a bad thing, still isn't. The problem in this world is NOT religion, but the extremists--those who use their views as an excuse to spread the hate and violence that we see.

Don't let our differences be an excuse to hate, but instead, let's use them to bring ourselves together. Diversity is GOOD thing, don't let it drive us apart.
