Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
What Stan Lee Thinks Of The Big Captain America Twist
Comic book fans were thrown for a loop this week when it was revealed that Captain America was a secret Hydra double agent in
. This sent the Internet into a flaming downward spiral, as people reacted largely negatively to this seemingly sudden change to a beloved character. Even Chris Evans joined the frenzy, though jokingly. Thank goodness we have Stan Lee to help guide the plane to a safe landing. While speaking at a panel at MegaCon, the comics legend was asked what he felt about the big Hydra twist. Lee makes it clear that he has no insider knowledge and that he found out the same way as everyone else, but he actually liked the idea.
It\'s a hell of a clever idea; I don\'t know that I would ever have thought of it for him to be a double agent, but it\'s going to make you curious, it\'s going to make you want to read the books, they\'ll probably do a movie based on it. So I can\'t fault it; it\'s a good idea. I think it\'s crazy, but it\'s a good idea. Stan Lee really hits the nail on the head. Say what you want about the twist, but it’s gotten people\'s attention, and it’ll make them stay up to date to find out what’s happening with Captain America. It\'s all about getting people to actually read the books, and it\'s still too early to tell how this will impact the story.
We don’t know anything about how Cap has been a Hydra agent or for how long, so there are plenty of questions that still need answering. I don’t agree that they’ll ever make a movie about it, but it’s still a wild twist. It also justifies there being two different Captain America books about two different Captain Americas (the other being Sam Wilson).
Captain America is one of the few Marvel characters that Stan Lee didn’t create (that credit goes to Lee’s frequent co-creator Jack Kirby and Joe Simon), but Lee was partly responsible for revitalizing Captain America by resurrecting him and bringing him into the Avengers. As such, Lee as a pretty good understanding of Cap, and if he’s not freaking out over the twist, then maybe nobody else should be either.
You can watch the full clip of Stan Lee at MegaCon below; his reaction to it is pretty great. Lee also drops the info that he’ll be going to film three cameos for three different movies soon. He doesn’t have any idea what movies they’re for or what he’ll be doing; he’s just happy to be there.
Do Stan Lee’s comments calm anybody down? I think it’s too early to judge the twist (my money’s on cosmic cube brainwashing), but I’ll be paying attention to find out what’s going on. Let us know how you feel about Steve Rogers seemingly being the “H” word down in the comments.
