Uninvited Guests...

“What is it?” Asked Patty Dransiena, “how did it get in here?”
John Dransiena couldn’t speak, he could only stare at the trembling creature that looked so innocent, yet so scary.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As John stepped out of his steaming car, he reflected on his day. He had been yelled at oleh his, then on his way home, some idiot had tried to cut in front of him and had nearly knocked him off the cliffs that lined the boundaries of the town of Vandero. So he was in a pretty bad mood when he got home, and, to make it worse, he had to go to his snobby mother-in-law’s birthday party tonight. How could things get any worse? He unlocked his front door, walked inside, went straight to his bedroom, and flopped down on the bed, and he fell asleep.
Two hours later, he awoke to a THUD! but he payed it no mind, for he looked at his clock beside his bed, he only had twenty menit to get ready and get to the party atau his mother-in-law would never forgive him! He quickly took a mandi, shower and changed. AHH! He only had five menit to get to the party! John was almost out the door when he heard another THUD! This one seemed to be coming from the basement. Being a journalist, John had a naturally curious mind. There was a war going on in his head as to whether he should check it out, atau just go. His curiosity won. As he crept down to the basement, he looked around, nothing seemed to be out of the ordinary. That is, until he saw the little door directly across the room from him. Then he backed up the stairs, he could have sworn he had seen the door handle turn.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
John was Frozen on the stairs for he had just seen the creature inside the world that lied just beyond the little door. It had opened the door, peeked out, and when it saw John, it slammed the door closed with appalling strength. He couldn’t believe it. He had heard of them in stories, but had ever believed that they were real. His grandpa had told him old fables of people who had encountered these demons of destruction. How did it get in here? How long had it been living here? Were there more? He had been living in that house for five years! Why were they appearing now, now of all times? He was struggling to remember it’s name, then it hit him, Gremlins. That’s what they were. He had trying to contain himself to keep himself from screaming, but he couldn’t control it any longer. He bolted out of his house, jumped in his car, and drove off. OH DANG IT! He was fifteen menit late to the party! Oh well, no sense in going now. He turned around and went back to his Gremlin house-of-horrors.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
John was terrified as he entered his house. He tried to remember how to get rid of them, but he couldn’t remember. Was it to use garlic? No, that was for vampires. Was it to shoot it with a emas bullet? No, that was for werewolves. Then he had it, sunlight. Sunlight would kill them. But how does he get sunlight through that little door? It was dark now, so he couldn’t do anything about it now. How fell asleep thinking about it.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
John awoke to the slam of a car door and a knock on his front door. He slowly got out of tempat tidur and drug his feet to the front door and opened to the sight of his sister, Patty. She looked as mad as a hornet.
“Why weren’t anda at Linda’s party?!” she yelled, “you left me alone with YOUR in-laws! How could---” but she stopped short. She seemed to be looking over his shoulder. He followed her gaze and found himself looking at the same Gremlin he had seen look out of the door in the basement. The Gremlin was trembling with fear and innocence, but John was lebih scared than it.
“What is it?” asked Patty, the fury in her voice replaced oleh fear which told John that she was just as scared as him, “How did it get in here?”
John couldn’t speak except for one word,
    “Gremlin.”
He could only stare at the creature that looked so innocent, yet so scary, for they both knew what it could do.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Gremlin was in a terrified state of mind as john and Patty slowly inched toward the Gremlin.
“Patty, do anda think it has a name?”
    “I don’t know, John.”
“Well, whether it has a name atau not, we need to get it and any ‘friends’ it brought with it out of here!”
“Do anda have a mouse in your pocket? ‘Cause there is no ‘we’ in this! It’s your house, your problem!” berkata Patty
John was astounded! How could Patty, his own sweet sister say that?
“I don’t want to get involved with any mass chaos!” berkata Patty. But little did Patty know, mass chaos would be unavoidable.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Later that evening, John was eating dinner, but it was after midnight and he was very tired. So he got up in the middle of makan malam and went to bed, leaving his unfinished makan malam on the table. Soon after John was asleep, the Gremlin crept up, onto the meja and ate what was left of John’s dinner. As soon as it finished, a slimy, ugly, cocoon-like thing covered the Gremlin.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
When John woke up in the morning, he found he food gone and his house trashed. A window was broken, so he assumed that someone had broke in, so he immediately called the police. When they arrived, they searched the house for fingerprints. They found nothing but little footprints, too small to be a human’s foot. The police told John that he had a serious case of a Gremlin infestation.
“How many do anda think there are?” asked John
“We don’t know.” replied Officer Perry, “There could be only one, but if thats the case, if it gets wet, the whole town could be in jeopardy.”
“Did anda leave any food out after midnight lost night?” asked Officer Galiman.
John thought hard, then almost collapsed from shock.
    “Yes, I did. Oh no.”
“Sir, do anda know what happens when they eat after midnight?”
John then thought about what his grandpa had told him. In all the tales, the Gremlin had gotten food after midnight and had transformed into slimy, gross, evil, demons that destroyed everything they touched. Not many of the people in the stories had survived, John was hoping that he would be the victor not the victim. The people who had not survived, had been ripped to shreds. The ones who had survived, had been saved oleh a huge bear-like thing that the Gremlin’s were terrified of.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
After the police left, John called Patty to tell her what happened, but he couldn’t contact her. She wasn’t at work, she wasn’t answering her halaman awal phone atau her cell phone. John feared that she was mad at him, but he didn’t suspect that this had anything to do with the Gremlin. However, it had everything to do with the creature that had looked so innocent. John was scared, but he hadn’t forgotten the thought that had crossed both his and Patty’s minds when they had seen the Gremlin:
“We need too stick together, if we don’t something terrible might happen.”
Little did John know that something terrible had happened to Patty.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
A few days went oleh without word from Patty. So John decided to go to her house, but she wasn’t home. John drove all over Vandero looking for her, but no one had seen her in days. Then he thought,
“What if the Gremlin kidnapped her?”
What John didn’t know was that he was exactly right.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Patty was terrified! she was chained to a wall, surrounded oleh Gremlins! How would she get out? The Gremlins had taken her phone when John had called and had snapped it in two. Patty was still trying to figure out where she was. She seemed to be in the middle of a jungle. She had been knocked out when she had been captured. The Gremlins looked just as her grandpa had told her and John. They were green, slimy, and looked as if they were trolls instead of Gremlins. They had built a api and had found a huge pot, big enough for Patty to fit in.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
John was so worried about Patty that he decided to go down to the basement. When he got down there, he heard war cries coming from the little door. He then knew what he had to do.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Patty was slowly beginning to realize where she was. She was inside the little door! How was John going to find her?
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
John was at the little door, he then opened it to find himself looking at a jungle. He set off through the jungle, for he knew that Patty was in there somewhere.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Patty was being drug oleh the Gremlins over to the pot, when they stopped. Their ears pricked as if they had heard something. Then Patty heard it too, footsteps, human footsteps! Then she saw him, it was John! But the Gremlins had seen him too.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
John had been running for ten menit when he heard them. He then sprinted meneruskan, ke depan into their camp and saw Patty, but no Gremlins. He proceeded forward. Patty had been bound and gagged. He then ran to her side and ungagged her, as soon he did, Patty yelled
“RUN! IT’S A TRAP!” but it was too late. The Gremlins then attacked him, gnawing at his arms and legs, ripping out his hair, clump oleh clump. John’s body was screaming with pain, he was sure that he was going to be one of the people who didn’t make it out. It was agonizing to Patty to see her brother being torn to pieces and being able to do nothing. Then, something happened that was very unusual, the Gremlins stopped attacking John and ran away in fear. John was laying on the ground, he looked as if he were dead. Patty called,
“John? John? JOHN?!” but he gave no answer.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The reason why the Gremlins had run away was because a Werebear had heard Patty’s cries of fear and had chased the Gremlins away. Werebear’s were the Gremlin’s natural enemy. They were what always saved the victims of Gremlin attacks. Werebears were the king of the jungle, but they were only the kings because they were the biggest. They were the gentlest creatures that ever roamed the world behind the little doors. If a Werebear wanted to, it could rip your head off, for they were very strong. John was very lucky, because just as Patty was giving up hope, the kindest Werebear of its pack came and picked up both John and Patty and carried them to the door. Patty crawled through, and the Werebear gently pushed John through. Before it closed the door, it cut the ropes that bound Patty.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
As soon as Patty got freed from the ropes, she ran to John’s phone and dialed 911. An ambulans then rushed over and put John on a stretcher and put him in the ambulans and rushed him to the hospital, where he was put in I.C.U.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Six weeks later, John was able to come home. He was still in pain, but not as bad. His wounds were all healed, but he was covered in scars, but other than that, he was fine. The Werebear had caught and killed the Gremlins for hurting John and to keep them from hurting anyone else. Many people claim to see a Gremlin every once in a while, but it became like Big Foot sightings, not very many people believes the sightings. No one was ever hurt oleh Gremlins ever again, for the Gremlins who had hurt John, were the last of the creatures left in the world. So when anda hear of someone who claims to see a Gremlin, do not dismiss the thought immediately. Remember what happened to John, for this can just as easily happen to anda as well.

buku have definitely taken on a new meaning in the past few years. Before, buku were a way to past time, something to take your mind off your busy and chaotic life. Now, we can see those classic stories come to life on the big screen. There are many film which were based on books, most of them very good. But I think a lot of us rabid readers can agree that sometimes, it’s just better to leave the story in the pages of a book. First of all, it’s very hard to create a film that’s just as good as the book. buku have so much fun detail and information on what the characters are thinking....

This review was last edited on 6 November 2008. A caveat: keep in mind that this was written oleh an adult man membaca a young adult novel: my opinions will differ from many fan of the book just as my time in life and experience also differ.

In my mind, a review consists of three parts: a recommendation, a review of the plot, and a critique of the craft that went into the product. These each follow. If anda have not read the book already and think anda might, avoid the review and critique both, as they discuss the book in detail.

Recommendation: Definitely read Twilight if anda are a preteen girl,...

 Another great book,
Another great book,
For all bookworms thirteen and over, well for bookworms who don't need each character explained to them each time there mentioned throughout the novel, I have a great book anda may like to try out if anda haven't already. 'The Way of Shadows' oleh Brent Weeks, the first book in the Night malaikat Trilogy. It's an action packed story filled with assassins, romance, friendship and life when it's hard. It's a fantasi book that challenges your imagination and keeps anda guessing. I have heard multiple phrases for it and cinta it myself. Another book of mine that I didn't want to put down.

A note to book-cover publishers: before anda decide on a cover, go into a bookstore and head to the respective section. See the trend of tints and shades that color that genre. then pick a different color! It is astonishing that, even in this hari and age, history buku about China and Russia are still primarily red, buku about Ireland are green, and "women's books"(i.e. Chick Lit and Self Help) are pastel pink, blue atau yellow. Honestly, even murder mystery books, when targeted towards female readers, take on berwarna merah muda, merah muda as opposed to the red and/or black of other mysteries.

The psychology of book...

We all cinta books. That's a given. But what about bookstores? What are your thoughts on them?

I'm just going to presume that anda cinta bookstores, and even more, independent bookstores. But in this hari and age when it is too easy to cari for and buy buku online *cough* amazon *cough*, I want to remind all of the wonderfulness of independent bookstores. But I also want to remind anda that they are suffering. These historical and community treasures need your help!

And so I want to direct your attention to an upcoming PBS documentary called Paperback Dreams. Paperback Dreams is the story...
