The producers did all to delight the Merthurs - it seems a bit like slavery to me, like the Merthurs are almighty and everyone in the show has to do all to just make them satisfied. I feel like giving up on this whole thing, I really do. This is not worth my precious time. You just don't know what to think of these people and what they are really doing. Such a sad thing. Anyway, Like I said at the other thread, can we just hold on until after Episode 9 and see what the climate is then? No, I don't mean we shouldn't express ourselves to the producers and MO! YOU SHOULD if it's burning in your heart that what you should do. But can we wait to see just how they resolve the Gwen storyline before passing final judgment on the state of affairs with respect to her character and Arwen? If it's totally messed up, then good if there's no season 6.

famfan I just don't know what to say..... Not going to say that I didn't expect it, but seeing it all in black white, well it kinda does something to your insides. A mix of extreme sadness and rage. No offense but it doesn't matter what plot they give Gwen, the same thing would have applied. Their hate is not rational. One poster even wrote "at last a REASON to hate Gwen." Nope, I have seen this kind of hate many times in to many different fandoms where the only constant between all the women in question was one thing. ....... As a hardcore Arwen, Gwen fan I thought the same way but as one of our lovely Arwennite said on Tumblr they just hate Gwen! Anything she does even for good is going to be hated, Hell she could save Arthur's life and they will still hate her. The only time the liked her was when she was Morgana's handmaid. Honestly, now that I think about it, I like what the idiots have said. The devil you know is way better then the one you don't. Now the only question remains how exactly do we use this?

EPaws We use this as a bludgeoning stick for SHINE, Capps and Murphy for feeding this dysfunctional behaviour. They think it is a joke, it is not. That needs to be made very clear to them. They are totally and I do mean totally unprofessional.

Bonne-Bell I too wasn't trying to cause offense in the other discussion thread. I was just stating my opinion that I don't think this evil!Gwen storyline is an attempt on the part of the show runners to assassinate her character. If they wanted to do that, they could have stuck with the Lancelot/Guinevere cheating storyline and been done with it. Every season this show seems to come up with a big Arwen/Gwen storyline which always holds a lot of people's interest and blows the ratings out of the water. I think this season they tried to cash in on that even more by doing this four episode arc. They might have gone too far for some people by having Gwen kill an innocent person but as I've said, they done that with the other characters too. They even had Arthur hold a sword to a small child in season 3 and threaten to kill him which was a big no no for a lot of people. The fact is that no matter what Gwen does, she's going to get hate. If she's good, they call her a Mary Sue. If she gives someone a trial and sentences them to death according to the law, they call her mean and a bitch. If she gets enchanted to kiss someone, she's a whore who's asking for it. If she's tortured and enchanted to do evil things, she's a bitch and this or other. These people's real issues aren't with anything that Gwen does. If it was, they'd be treating the other characters the same way when they do the same thing. Their problem is their racist attitudes and impotent rage over the fact that a woc got the part of a role that is traditionally played by a white woman. This is the sad reality. Also Angel expressed a lot of joy over this story arc and she's always wanted to play a dark Gwen. She even said in an interview a while ago that she wished that Gwen would get possessed so she could do some bad things that she wouldn't normally do. I don't think that if she saw this as ruining her character, she would've been so happy about it. And in my view, this story arc hasn't and isn't going to ruin the character. Haters are gonna hate, as they say. So for them anything that they can latch on to hide their real issues with the character, they're going to do it. I don't really care about them so I pay them no mind. Also as HQ said, lets please wait to see how this story will get resolved before we start passing judgment. If they were really trying to ruin the character they'd just have her go on Morgana's side completely and not bother returning her to her normal self. They've already gotten a lot of flack for what they did to Morgana's character and how they always make the women evil on their show so I don't think that even they want to deal with the storm that's going to happen if they don't resolve this story properly for Gwen. That's all I have to say about this. Again, I'm not trying to cause anyone offense or distress, just saying that this is probably more of an attempt for them to garner more interest in the show and to cash in on Arwen and maybe even find more of an excuse to delay the magic reveal than it is to get people to hate Gwen/Angel.

faithlessducks They made a big deal about morphing Morded into an adult, and nothing. All of the preseason press was about Morded returning tot he show. Morded has been underused. In the legend, Morded slays Arthur and he's living in Camelot. The series isn't focused on Morded? At first, I wasn't on they want to destroy Gwen train. I purchased my ticket today. Until, I read this in Morgan jeffery's review on Digital spy:Also given a better crack of the whip than usual is Angel Coulby: with Gwen either mad or under the influence of black magic - it's not made particularly clear which here - the actress gets a chance to explore her character's dark side... Angel has been awesome. Yet, why isn't it clear that Gwen is under an enchantment? Why are they so vague? with Elyan, they fell over backward to make sure that everyone knew that the Druid boy controlled him. Gauis and the Goblin, it was quite clear. Uther with Catrina: it was clear with the charm around his neck. Arthur and Vivian... a speal. Elena had a pixie living in her. Merlin had that thing in his neck. Not once, have they explain how Morgana has control over Gwen. Why didn't they clear up braceletgate? These people are well aware of the hate directed towards Angel. Yet, they write 4 shows about"evil" Gwen, and maybe they will clear it up in the last of the four. Still, it's lazy writing. They blew off revealing the enchantment with Lancelot. Yet, they never make it clear that she's enchanted. On Buffy, they made it quite clear when Angel turned into Angelus. and, it was clear when Angel 's soul was returned. Willow went evil, and she killed a bunch of people. It was dealt with. Once, it's an accident, but when it's recurring it's a plan. I could be wrong, and you are entitled to your view. Angel does bring out the best in Katie.

Bonne-Bell But with the bracelet it was clear to the audience that Gwen was enchanted. They took so many close shots of that bracelet, that there's no way that anyone could have missed it. The fandom also went into an uproar when the bracelet enchantment wasn't revealed to the rest of the characters and even in SDCC someone brought it up and people got mad again when they said that they weren't going to revisit it. In no way did 4x09 make Gwen look bad. As for them not revealing what happened to her in this story arc, they could just be saving it for the final episode of this storyline. A lot of shows sometimes deliberately withhold information from the audience to create surpirse and then go back and show them what happened once they get to the end of the storyline. For instance in the season finale of Law and Order SVU, they showed Captain Cragen sleeping next to a dead prostitute that he'd gone out with. They made it look like he'd killed her which caused a lot of speculation and it wasn't until the next season that they revealed that it wasn't his fault. Lots of shows do things like this. Now if they don't reveal what happened to Gwen in the dark tower by 5x09 then I too would suspect that they did this to hurt her character. But for now, I'm gonna withhold judgement on that. I do agree that Mordred has been really underused this season. I've seen spoiler pics for 5x11 and it seems like that's when his storyline is going to begin but they really could have done more with him this season. Perhaps they didn't want him to overshadow Morgana who's still the main villain so they curtailed his storyline a bit.

EPaws This has very little to do with Guinevere and more to do with delaying the inevitable...well said, May. This has always been a mistake. This has actually thwarted Arthur and Merlin progress as characters, the simple minded will never see this.

I needed that. @faithlessducks: Merlin and Gaius have concluded that it's a control thing by Morgana, but the main thing is if according to the reviews on episode , Merlin has to go to such great lengths to get her from under this thing, it will be quite clear to everyone then just what is wrong with her. At this point, it's slowly being revealed.

ellarose88 @faithlessducks, I think that in episode 9 we will find out what spell Gwen has been put under by Morgana. Should do seeing as Merlin has to fight Morgana as she has Gwen under her control whic clearly (to me anyway) suggests an enchantment.

Adam Levine doesn't always get along Christina on the Voice. yet, he defends her from bullies. Shine creates these storylines, and not once have their ever defended Gwen, and said anything about the hate directed at Angel. People say horrible things about Gwen over 4x9. Suzanne Collins from the Hunger Games stood behind her books and the movie. She didn't turn a blind eye to people and their stupid comments over Prue's casting. Cragen's character didn't get venom tossed at him for 4.5 seasons. Dick Wolfe from Law and Order and Joss Whedon have always taken a stand on defending their actors and characters. I work for the female version of Sheldon Cooper, and a district person said something about her teachers. She defended us because that's what you do when you have good employees.

Bonne-Bell @faithlessducks: I do recall an interview last year where one of the J's said that Gwen was completely blameless in 4x09 though. But you're right, they do need to be more proactive in defending their characters and actors. That being said, they can't really control what a bunch of random fangirls say on their personal blogs and youtube channels about Gwen/Angel. What I want to see them doing is to get rid of hateful comments from fans on the Merlin Official facebook page and to fire the asshat that they have running their twitter.

EPaws Here is the most sad thing of all. The show could have been great. THEY BLEW IT. They blew it because they did not realize they had platinum, so went for the banal, the hateful, the devisive and the untutored and wholly mental deficit easy way out. I don't actually care if this offends because the people they are trying to appease, are not only the losers of life, but the unstable. lailastar I am praying that one of those mentally unstable fans do not hurt Angel, because of this hate fueled by what they see on screen. We all hear, see and read how far some fans can go after a movie star. This weeks episode is suppose to be even worse than last week, with her plotting and conniving to kill Arthur. They took this way too far. Even Bradley is afraid of these fans, this is why he keeps his private life very secretive.

Ash_pendragon94 I agree with faithlessducks, God this fandom is the worst fandom that I've ever seen! Even the "Delena vs Stelena" war in TVD fandom is not as disgusting as this one. The writers are well aware of Merthur and it's popularity oh yes they are aware of it, that is why they tried to ruin Gwen's character to make the crazy Merthur shippers happy, they didn't even include a damn kiss in the damn season 5 no they didn't and the ending proves that they made it "Merthur friendly". And yes I agree that the "Merthur bullshit" is just an excuse to hate on Gwen/Angel, I mean why didn't they hate on Mithian? why did they like her? Because she was a damn white princess that's why. Stupid writers, stupid, insecure, racist fans, I hate them, I'm happy the show is over.
