Ruby wanted to go out on a hunt lebih than anything. Never before had she been able to run with the pack after prey, to howl with them after a
successful hunt, atau feel the satisfaction that she hunted to feed her pack. She wanted to feel that lebih than anything. It would not be a much longer wait she
knew, but she remained impatient all the same. Only when the Pack Leader, Scarlet approved she was old enough would she be allowed to hunt with the pack.
Moons had passed since she first left the den. She was born in early summer and now the cold winds of winter were already presenting themselves
on some nights. She was about six moons old, half a year, but still she wished she would grow into her paws that were still slightly too big for her.
The pack set out once again that evening, guided oleh the light of the moon. Scarlet loved leading his pack under the light of the moon for the darkness
of night was the time for hunters who prowled about in the shadows after prey. It was for stealth, shadows, and for silence. Ruby watched them set out after
the silver white wolf. Lyra told her that Scarlet's bulu was white when he was small, but his pelt turned bright silver oleh the spirits of the ice to help him blend
into his surroundings. The name did not suit him, that was for sure, but yet he had won Keera's jantung after much persistance and she gladly carried his litter.
Scarlet's litter was born only recently and since then Ruby scarcely saw her. She rarely came out of the sarang, den and growled at anyone who came near the
entrance, including Ruby. So she spent most of her time in the clearing with the other serigala most of the time.
When the last serigala disappeared from sight, Ruby had no idea what was about to happen while they disappeared. Nothing ever occured that was of any
interest to her, and she was unaware of the presence of another serigala until she picked up a strange scent smelling of serigala but not of her pack. It immediately
made her bulu prickle. She did not know if they were a threat atau not, but a feeling inside her told her whatever it was wasn't friendly.
"Strangers. Maybe Scarlet invited them to the camp," she whispered to herself, trying to reason out the situation before resuming to panic. Ruby always
found herself speaking reasonable words to herself whenever she was unsure of what to do. "They could be invited guests."
Still, that theory did not seem very promising. Surely Scarlet would have been here if he was expecting visitors, not out hunting. Ruby ruled out that
reason and backed up in a crevice out of sight. She felt watched and every moonlit shadow looked like it would menelan her up in vast darkness. She wanted to
think of herself as brave, strong, and fearless, but she couldn't hide the fact that she was scared. Keera always told her stories about how brave Ruban was and
of his many accomplishments, and even told her about how he died. Even in death he was courageous and had the pack's best interests in heart.
What is out there? Ruby asked herself over and over but never had the courage to venture out and investigate. Why am I hiding when I don't even know
what I am hiding from?
Swallowing the last of her fear, she abandoned her hiding place. If there really was danger, she would be the first to know. serigala had sneaked into
camp and Ruby was determined to find out why they were here.
