I remember visiting this website once...
It was called the force is strong in my family
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
bailey. twenty one. slytherin. loves star wars, jurassic park, jennifer lawrence & leonardo dicaprio. skywalker trash.
so I got bored and instead of ranting in a bunch of different posts about all the various parallels between Rey and Luke, I figured I’d make one big master post compiling the visual parallels from Force Awakens. there’s a couple of Anakin/Rey ones as well, but as we all know George Lucas put in numerous intentional parallels between Luke and Anakin in the prequel trilogy.
I plan on doing a musical cues parallel post at some point as well because that’s a big part of the Luke + ______ = Rey equation.
so without further ado, here are the parallels! and be warned, this is very
1) the first parallel I’m going to mention is the most obvious visual one you can think of, in fact many people picked up on it during the promo for TFA. Anakin, Luke and Rey all have very similar outfits and spent their childhoods on desert planets. there’s not much else I can say about it.
2) Rey’s Ressistance outfit is very similar to Luke’s Bespin outfit.
3) The Rey Rey card is the card that was used to  announce character names after the first teaser came out. JJ Abrams said the numbering on the cards was significant. make of that what you will.
4) Rey’s speeder is similar to Luke’s in color. It even looks a bit like his if you were to flip the front part vertically. (note I’m not saying it’s the same speeder because it’s obviously not, they just look similar.)
also if you listen closely to the engines they sound like podracing engines.
5) Binary sunset parallel. the colors in this shot are almost exact when you see the TFA shot in high quality.
6) I’m putting the doll and the helmet in the same bullet point because I have the same things to say about both. According to Rey’s survival guide the helmet belonged to a Rebel pilot named Dosmit Raeh. in the guide she says she liked to make up stories about Captain Raeh and also made a doll of her.
So while some would say this means the helmet and doll are just a red herring, I say otherwise. why else would the film go out of there way to spend precious moments of screentime on a doll and helmet (and the helmet looks a lot like Luke’s even if it isn’t his helmet) and not have it meant to remind the audience of Luke? the first thing that popped into my head when I saw the doll and helmet were Luke. they showed those two items early on in the film to get the audience to already start to make the connection between the two characters. whether or not the helmet was Luke’s, it’s still meant to invoke his image in your mind.
7) An early scene of Rey shows her fixing BB8′s antenna. An early scene of Luke in ANH shows him cleaning Artoo.
8) This whole flashback just in general reminds me a lot of the scene in Empire when Luke goes into the cave and has a vision of himself fighting Vader.
9) Another parallel from the vision is Rey standing in the hallway on Bespin where Luke fought Vader in Emire. At first I thought it was Rey having a vision of Starkiller Base but on a second viewing I realized it was obviously Bespin.
10) In TFA Rey watches as Kylo Ren kills her mentor (Han) that she only recently met and began to view as a father figure. After he is killed she sreams “NOOOO!!!!” and starts shooting wildly at stormtroopers while trying to escape.
In ANH Luke watches as Darth Vader kills his mentor (Obi-Wan) that he only recently met and began to view as a father figure. After he is killed he screams “NOOOO!!!!!” and starts shooting wildly at stormtroopers while trying to escape.
11) Rey pulling the saber from the snow (as Burning Homestead plays but more on that in the musical cues post!) is a direct parallel to Luke pulling the saber from the snow in Empire.
12) This is just a simple visual parallel showing the Skywalker rage. The difference between Luke/Rey and Anakin is that Rey and Luke get close to the darkness and then turn away.
13) In these scenes Leia/Han are saying “May the force be with you.” to Rey/Luke.
14) and finally, during the Kylo/Rey interrogation scene Kylo mentions how Rey can’t sleep at night and when she is desperate to sleep she thinks of the ocean, then Kylo sees the island. and lo and behold where does Rey end up at the end of the film? an island. her facial expression in that moment to me, says that this is the island she say in her dreams.
15) when luke first sees the falcon he says “what a piece of junk!” rey refers to the falcon as “garbage” before the quad jumper gets blown up.
16) rey killing the rathtar to save finn (TFA) while luke kills the rancor to save himself (rotj).
That’s all folks! If you guys can think of anymore parallels you’d like me to add to this post just let me know and I’ll add them up.
