Humanizing villains should be done from the start in order to make the character more complex. Just like a real person can be a mixture of both good and evil, the villain should be the same such as striving to lead a peaceful happy life with their family members, having sympathy for others and plotting against the protagonists for stealing money or a rapist in his past life.... Another example would be that the villain killed protagonists father when he was drunk and now the protagonist wants revenge and villain is an extremely rich guy who has a family and children whom he loves. Although the villain repents for his crime, to sustain his reputation and the loving family , he is using all his money and power to shut down the poor protagonist.
