Why are Japanese names for characters so odd sounding?

Before I begin, think for a moment. What about our names? In their perceptive, they think the exact same thing about us. But we don't think it's strange because of our culture. The same goes for the Japanese. For them it's tradition.

Now I'm not too familiar with the Japanese culture. So I'll try to answer this to the best of my ability. From what I've been told, usually their names are based from the pronunciation of their own alphabet that symbolizes each meaning. With that being said, their names aren't odd sounding. In fact to them, it's perfectly normal as it should be. anda just find their names odd because your not accustomed to their language. If anda was, anda wouldn't think so.

Well my name is Cody rubah, fox and I looked up my name in Japanese and it came up Kodi Fokkusu sooo...I dunno :P

That is how "Steve Fox" is written in romanji. Not very strange, once anda say it fast and say it in a sort of Japanese way. Sounds like Steve Fox. Oh yeah, why would anyone translate a NAME?! A name is a name, it can't be translated .__.

They aren't. Not to me anyways.
Each culture has strange names. My name is Zanny, I'm from America. A lot of people think that's an odd name, and I can't say I disagree.
But then again some people may not think so. It all comes to one complex word; onion.

Another reason could be simply because they haven't heard the name often so it's just out there to them; A Japanese woman my believe the name Jessica is strange, simply because she hasn't heard it much before. Like wise an American (or any other race man/woman) may think the Korean name Taemin is odd because it's not used much in his/her race.

Because anda are not from Japan.

It would sound odd to anda of course because your not Japanese. I'm Japanese and I don't think they're odd sounding at all. I think English names are very odd sounding tho, but well of course I do because I'm not American and it's not something I'm used to atau its not my tradition. It all basically depends on your traditions I guess.
