Emily Bett Rickards wins the 2016 Zap2it Showdown – congrats, ‘Arrow’ fans! 

not be so good for Olicity these days, but outside of the camera’s focus things are considerably more celebratory for “Arrow” actress Emily Bett Rickards. Despite a seemingly-uphill climb in the 2016 Zap2it Social Media Showdown that had her squaring off in the final round against Goliath himself — last year’s winner Jensen Ackles — she has emerged triumphant.

Congratulations to Emily and all of her many vocal, passionate, tireless fans. In the realm of social media, it seems, she is truly a force to be reckoned (Rickened?) with.

Oddly enough, on Twitter Rickards would seem undermatched, since she barely has over a half-million followers compared to Ackles’ 1.67 million. Nevertheless, the Canadian beauty — originally signed to “Arrow” for a small, one-episode appearance — has built up such affection from the show’s fanbase that she nearly doubled the numbers of the “Supernatural” star in the final round. Ouch — that would seem to sting as sharply as any arrow from Oliver Queen.

Although she only made her pop culture debut about four years ago, the 24-year-old Vancouver native with a background in theater and dance is really making an impact. Her unique mix of sexiness and sarcasm has made Felicity Smoak a fan favorite, as evidenced by the astounding 361,515 votes she received in all the Showdown rounds combined.

Now, perhaps, Rickards’ fans should try and put an even bigger smile on her face. Currently, the “Arrow” actress is selling a limited edition t-shirt that she created, with all proceeds going to support American Autoimmune Related Diseases Association (AARDA). If all the people who voted for her in the showdown would head over and support her noble campaign — and who knows? Maybe Jensen Ackles’ fans could as well, to show no hard feelings? — that would be the perfect ending to a fun, memorable 2016 Showdown.
