The best from The Man Without Fear\'s debut year.
Now that Daredevil\'s excellent, gritty first season has dropped and changed all our lives for the better, it\'s time to look back at the best parts of blind attorney Matt Murdock\'s knuckle-cracking crusade to rid his beloved neighborhood of crime and despair. Could one man make a difference? You betcha. Did one show make a difference? Hell yes.
Real talk now. We could\'ve taken up 10 pages with all the awesome moments from Steven S. DeKnight and Drew Goddard\'s take on Daredevil. So there are sure to be plenty of great moments left over to chat about down in the comments. We didn\'t "forget" anything, we swear! We just had to make some tough decisions to whittle our love and admiration down and make this manageable.
Season 1 Spoiler Conversation With Showrunner Steven DeKnight
So here are 11 of the coolest moments from Netflix\'s first Marvel series - arguably one of the best superhero tales ever told on screen.
Daredevil: Season 1 Review (Plus All Episode Reviews)
Just when young Matt Murdock was at his lowest, a cranky, joyless mystery man came into his life and taught him to pick himself up and embrace his "gifts." The ice cream cone in the park scene between Matt and Scott Glenn\'s Stick was an excellent, formative moment between a scared-but-strong boy and a bastard of a blind mentor.
"Are you gonna spend your life crying, and rocking yourself to sleep at night? Or are you gonna dig deep and find out how to re-shuffle the cards life dealt you? Your choice kid.”
There are many reasons why "Condemned" stands out as one of the season\'s best episodes, but it was Wilson Fisk\'s big, nasty PR move that left our jaws hanging. Long before Matt and Wilson ever came to blows (or even stood face to face), the Kingpin had his own marksman (who came complete with an intriguing playing card Easter Egg - if you can make it out above) shoot a bunch of cops so that the "Devil" of Hell\'s Kitchen could take the blame. A diabolical move from a man who truly wielded all the power.
The fact that our first introduction to Wilson Fisk came through his awkward courtship of Vanessa is one of the reasons he instantly felt a cut above most comic book villains. We entered his life right as he was attempting to go out on a limb and make a huge
change. And while their first date didn\'t go as he\'d planned (more on that later), it was their second date that worked to draw a hesitant Vanessa fully into his orbit, as they bonded over an exquisite view of exploding buildings.
And yes, the Fight Club comparisons are notable. And wonderful.
Matt donned his no-frills black vigilante costume right up until the very last episode - when he finally assumed the full role of the Hell\'s Kitchen "Devil" and debuted the classic comic book red suit. A cool, earned moment that help bring this fairly-grounded series more into the realm of Marvel. And one that also gave Matt a bit more padding and protection when it counted most.
The episode "Nelson v. Murdock" had its own set of built-in challenges. Not only did it have to show Matt and Foggy\'s relationship in turmoil, but it also had to simultaneously catch us up on some of their history together - giving us more of a reason to care about their current fight/schism.
The flashback to a drunken Matt and Foggy stumbling around their college campus, dreaming about their futures as the city\'s "Best Damn Avocados" (Foggy\'s inebriated pronunciation of
), gave the duo that extra little adorable catchphrase they needed to leap out of the screen as best buds. Plus, it made for a great callback in the finale.
