I'm excited!!! :) Hopefully we get the 5th album by 2012 and then Avril would have completed her 5 album contract with RCA and can get a new record label :)
Well, hopefully she'll release more singles from GL first. Also, she said it'll be another pop, upbeat album. I seriously hope, for her sake especially, that it's not like The Best Damn Thing. At least more mature.
(Sorry, I don't mean to be a downer here. It just seems way too early to be working on another album.)
Many of us don't want to admit it, but Avril's no longer commercially relevant. This is the age of Lady Gaga and Taylor Swift. Avril seems to think that a more pop and upbeat album will sell more copies than Goodbye Lullaby. Has she not noticed that "What the Hell" and "Smile" both flopped on the charts?
Personally, I love Avril whether she's relevant or not. She's the best female music artist that I've ever listened to. LG, UMS, TBDT, and GL are all excellent albums.
^ Yeah, it's such a shame how the world works these days. I still can't understand why WTH and Smile weren't very successful, since her singles usually are, and the songs are very catchy. Avril was way more popular back in the day than a lot of mainstream artists today are, so I don't see why they wouldn't want to promote her again?
I suppose she can try with another "fun" album, but if it fails, hopefully she'll realize that upbeat won't cut it and will return to making albums like GL, for the sake of making music, not for success.
I doubt she really cares about the money she makes off her albums. I think she just wants publicity/recognition. She has millions of fans though, so I still don't see how she's so unpopular. It's the same thing with Paramore, but I think they're slightly more popular than her as of right now.

The question is, does Avril even need strong album sales anymore? She makes millions with her clothing line and fragrances.
