6 Questions with “RECTIFY” Star Sharon Conley (D.A. Sondra Person)
Posted July 20th, 2015, 5:07 PM by SundanceTV
RECTIFY star Sharon Conley, who plays Sondra Person, the District Attorney on Daniel’s case, talked to us about her favorite scene blooper, her love for
Q: You and series creator Ray McKinnon were both in The Blind Side. Is that how you met?
A: No, I never had the opportunity to meet Ray on The Blind Side. My first time meeting Ray McKinnon was at the table read for [RECTIFY episodes] 105 and 106. I was so grateful for the opportunity and Ray was so welcoming and genuine.
Q: Do you have a favorite moment from RECTIFY so far?
A: I can’t get a “blooper” out of my head. While filming the Season 2 finale, Senator Foulkes leans over, during the deposition, knocking over a glass of water. The water spreads out over the table, slowly dripping during the ENTIRE scene. It was so beautiful and symbolic of Daniel’s confession. There was no way to recreate it for additional takes, so it couldn’t be used, but Michael O’Neal just kept going and it was AMAZING!

Q: As the District Attorney on Daniel’s case, Sondra has to remain neutral and loyal to the law. But how do you think she actually feels about Daniel’s confession?
A: His confession was enlightening for Sondra. She definitely saw Senator Foulkes for who he was back then, from Daniel’s perspective. Daniel’s arrested development and almost childlike demeanor, suggests he is a different person than she was led to believe. This raises additional questions for her.
A: It is funny that you ask that. I am a Law & Order: Criminal Intent junky! I have been since The Blind Side, so I am well versed in most things legal. Ray’s writing is so great with the human aspect of all of the characters. That helps me develop a backstory for Sondra, more so than the court shows/movies.
Q: You often are cast as a figure of authority in the movies and on TV. Why do you think that is?
A: I still do not have a clear answer for this. I am actually very silly. As most actors will tell you, they would love to play
kinds of vulnerable, broken and flawed characters. I am no different. Sometimes you play a certain type really well and people have a hard time seeing you in a different light. Maybe, I’m also a little bossy… [Laughs].
Q: You starred in the short film D.N.R., a revenge movie directed by David Martyn Conley, who became your husband. Did you two meet when making the short? What was that like?
A: It is actually the pilot episode of a series. We entered it in various film festivals, as a short, to get it seen. It won several awards and we are very proud of it. David and I met when I was the lead in a play that he had written and was directing (Tapestry of Shadows). D.N.R. was one of the best experiences I have ever had as an actor. It was a lot of work in a short amount of time. We filmed for 20 hours straight at one point! The scenes are long and we didn’t chop them up. David is similar to Ray McKinnon in the way that he writes and crafts a visual. I believe that D.N.R. prepared me for RECTIFY. Funny how God works that way.
