I remember visiting this website once...
It was called Once Upon a Time Casts Merlin, Guinevere for Season 5 | TVLine
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
alum Elliot Knight in the recurring Season 5 role of Merlin, whom viewers know holds the answer to expunging the Darkness from the world forever — and thus can save Emma from her new fate.

Additionally, our sister site Deadline reports, Portuguese actress Joana Metrass has landed the recurring role of Guinevere, the queen to King Arthur (to be played by Liam Garrigan).
) is set to reprise his role as the knight Lancelot aka Guin’s OTL.

Knight’s previous credits also include the BBC One drama
arc, while Metrass’ resume includes the Portuguese drama series
mailman Andrew Jenkins will guest-star as  Percival, one of Arthur’s most loyal knights.

Deadline article also reports the casting of Percival. He will be portrayed by Andrew Jenkins.
Huh, the racists haven’t gotten here yet. That’s a relief.
Nope, though you should really look in the mirror for assuming white people would bring up race. However, since you brought it up, in the context of where Camelot traditionally existed in the mythology there probably wasn’t much diversity of race, but I don’t have a problem with them changing it up as the show has already done so for other characters.
That said he looks a lot younger than what I was expecting. The show gave the impression this Merlin had been around for a while, but this actor looks barely old enough to legally drink. Maybe they’ll have some magical explanation of that. At least they better have some explanation why he looks so young but has been around a long time.
Actually since Roman legions had plenty of members from all the conquered and incorporated regions their remnants in post Roman Britain (the 4th and 5th century of Arthurian myth) would have been fairly diverse as well: so North Africa, the east etc. would have been represented.
When did Joey say that WHITE PEOPLE were going to bring up race?
Merlin, Arthur, Guinevere, Lancelot, Percival (!) and no Morgana? Boo.
Check out this question/answer from EW.com’s latest “burning questions” interview with Adam & Eddy:
“Any chance of incorporating the evil witch Morgana Le Fay?
I feel like if she definitely wasn’t going to be in it then they would have just denied it. The fact that they’re playing coy leads me to believe that we’re going to see her at some point.
I hope Gunivere is Killian’s long lost sister
So Colin Morgan is only 4 years older than this guy. They could have cast him as Merlin if not for the fact they wanted a black British actor. People have said that Colin was too young but I guess not. Too bad they didn’t just pick the best one for the job.
The difference is Colin was not playing a well established Merlin, he was playing a young Merlin just discovering and growing into his powers. OUAT gave the impression this Merlin has been around a long time, so they’ll need to explain how/why he looks so young.
But this guy they picked is actually 4 years younger than Colin. And I know that there were people who were hoping for Colin to be Merlin. And anyway, at the end of the series, he was much more established as Merlin.
Why would they cast someone just because he’s played a different version of the character before? 90% of the characters on OUAT were played and played well by other actors and actresses before, but obviously OUAT would like to put their own spin on the characters. And who says Colin Morgan would have actually wanted to play the same character twice?
“Best” is rather relative, he’s one of the central reasons I stopped watching that show.
Glad the casting news finally start revealing. Bit worried about Eliott being to young and naive to pull of this big role.
On the other hand OUAT didn’t make a single wrong casting decision, so I really can’t argue against them until I see some scenes, maybe tomorrow from their CC panel or when the show premiers.
Portuguese makes MUCH more sense than Latina.
Elliot i know him from somewhere and wasnt that impressed with him.
Bah, Merlin is an old man with long grey beard and spectacles!!!
He’s infinitely patient with young Arthur. He fights Mad Madam Mim, too.
My mom’s a huge Camelot fan and will probably be disappointed this guy doesn’t fit the Merlin stereotype, but I’m pretty excited. Hopefully he’s a nice guy. OUAT could use some good guy POCs.
This all seems so low key next to last year’s big Frozen premiere. Hopefully it’s good. I’m mostly looking forward to Dark Emma.
Isn’t one of the concepts of Merlin that he ages backwards? A young looking Merlin could be an old in years Merlin.
