BECOMING "THE DARK ONE"

I have a confession to make. I am a little disappointed at how Emma angsa, swan became the new "Dark One". She did so oleh committing a noble act. And I find that . . . unsatisfying.

The Season One episode, (1.08) "Desperate Soul" revealed that Rumpelstiltskin had originally become "the Dark One" when he was recruited oleh the title's sebelumnya holder, Zoso, to find the dagger that would either allow the former to control him atau acquire magical power oleh killing him. Zoso goaded Rumpelstiltskin into anger oleh questioning the paternity of latter's son, Baelfire/Neal Cassidy, and the latter killed him. Rumpelstiltskin became the new "Dark One" and remained so for several centuries.

But nothing similar happened to Emma. Instead, she recently became "the Dark One" in the series' Season Four finale, (4.23) "Operation Mongoose, Part II" oleh saving Regina Mills from an entity that would allow the latter to assume that title. She did so oleh allowing herself to become possessed oleh berkata entity. Before coming possessed, Emma told Regina that she wanted prevent Regina's moral progress from being disrupted. Well, I am glad that Regina was prevented from becoming "the Dark One". But . . . pardon me for saying this, but Emma's reasoning struck me as a bit patronizing. And it seemed that Horowitz and Kitsis may have taken the whole "savior complex" a bit too far. At least to me.

Emma was worried about the regression of Regina's moral compass? She should have been worried about her own. Despite the Sorcerer Apprentice's spell that had allegedly transferred Emma's inner evil to the daughter of Maleficent, Lily Page in a (4.17) "Best Laid Plans" flashback, I personally suspect that his spell went no where. After all, Emma's moral compass was already questionable oleh the she first had arrived in Storybrooke. She had spent most of her adolescent as a thief. Both she and former boyfriend, Neal, had stolen a yellow Volkswagen . . . which was never returned oleh Neal atau Emma. When she told Regina that her car was stolen in (4.13) "Darkness on the Edge of Town", she seemed to be lacking in any remorse over her crime. She had also committed a series of petty crimes - including destruction of private property, and breaking and entering - that should have landed her behind bars in Storybrooke atau fired as the town's sheriff back in Season One. Her rescue of son Henry Mills from the clutches of Cruella de Vil in (4.19) "Sympathy for the De Vil" nearly endangered his life. Yet . . . very few people have komentar on this. Her decision to save Maid Marian from being executed oleh Regina in (3.22) "There's No Place Like Home", literally ended in disaster. And if viewers are really to believe that the Apprentice had removed all signs of Emma's inner evil before she was born; why did the Chernabog demon, which allegedly only sought out one with the jantung with the greatest potential for evil in order to devour berkata heart, went after Emma, instead of the former Evil queen in "Darkness on the Edge of Town"? What did that say about Emma's true nature - spell atau no spell?

Unfortunately, the series' reluctance to openly acknowledge Emma's unpleasant side has not done her character any credit. Sometimes, I get the feeling that Adam Horowitz and Edward Kitsis are afraid of really exploring how low Emma can sink on her own. atau when they are willing to do so, they are very vague about it. Why, I do not know. To this day, no one seems willing to criticize Emma for keeping a stolen vehicle. No one bothered to point out that her decision to act as Marian's savior had led to disaster. No one. Not a single character on the tampil (aside from an angry Regina in early Season Four) atau any of the series' viewers. No one had questioned Emma's method of killing Cruella de Vil in "Sympathy for the De Vil" . . . especially since she could have saved Henry without ending Cruella's life and nearly endangering his. Well, I take that back. Horowitz and Kitsis claimed that Emma had "stepped over the line" oleh killing Cruella. The problem is that they never made the effort to clarify their komentar - not to the fan atau on the show. I have noticed in the past that the only times Emma's actions were really criticized happened during late Season Three when she was determined to upset the Charming family dynamics oleh returning to New York City with Henry.

And now, Emma has become "the Dark One". Through an act of noble sacrifice. UGH! Kitsis and Horowitz spent most of Season Four building up to how unpleasant Emma could be . . . and ended it all in a nice bow tie with forgiveness toward her parents' perfidy. And what did they do next? Allowrd Emma to become "the Dark One" through an act of sacrifice. This whole story arc would have been lebih interesting if Emma's Season Four descent into evil could have ended with her falling under "the Dark One" curse. But noooooo! Once again, the possibility in revealing how low Emma can sink winds up being pushed aside atau in this case, sugar coated.

When will "ONCE UPON A TIME" be willing to expose Emma's true potential for evil without resorting to vague atau evasive storytelling, atau possession oleh magical entity? They managed to do so with her parents, Snow White and David, Prince Charming. I think Emma could become a lebih interesting character if Horowitz and Kitsis would allow this to eventually happen. But I have a deep suspicion that the series will end before the two showrunners would be willing to do so.

The problem is that they never made the effort to clarify their comment - not to the fans or on the show." These were my two exact problems with Cruella's death, besides the fact that I liked her. She managed to save him from Zelena by using her magic, back in season 3 and she's better with her magic now. Also about Adam and Eddy and their comment.

KataraLover The reason the Chernabog went after Emma was because she did have the greatest potential for darkness. She was the only one who could break the curse, is the one heart in the world that Cora couldn't rip out, and is the product of the most powerful thing in the world, true love. She's very powerful and it's arguable that she's close to the same level as Rumplelstiltskin. That much power has great potential for goodness but also that much power has potential for darkness. Besides, Snow White already said that no one is completely good and no one is completely evil. I mean, Lily is full of darkness but answer me this. If she was completely evil, why would she want Emma as a friend? If she was completely heartless, she wouldn't care about having friends and likely would've become a murderous psychopath like Cruella. It shows that both of them still have some good and some evil in them. It shows hope that Lily can fix her darkened heart. As for her sacrificing herself for Regina, I think it was meant to be a cruel irony. Everyone (especially her parents) feared she would become dark through doing evil like killing Cruella and (almost) killing Lily. However, what made the savior go dark was by the actions her parents had done with making her pure of heart, her good heart is what caused her to become The Dark One. It's irony of her becoming so pure of heart that she became the Dark One. Now that she has both the power of the savior and the power of the Dark One, she's become the most powerful person that has ever come into existence. Her good heart made her potential for darkness, since the Chernabog seems to know what people have in their hearts and Emma's pure heart is what became her undoing. Even the purest of hearts have potential for darkness, which is why she's done some bad things in her past. If there is a chance that Lily will become good by fixing her dark heart, there certainly is a chance that Emma can become evil through actions because she's not perfect. As for the whole Cruella thing, I love Cruella but I really think Emma gets WAY TOO MUCH crap for that. I'm going to say this as perfectly honest as I can. Yes, there were other ways Emma could've dealt with saving Henry from Cruella. However, before I'm blunt about this, I will use a defense that's more logical. Her son was in danger of dying and she wasn't able to think clearly. I mean, if you were in this situation, would you think clearly? Now here comes my brutally honest opinion on this, even if she had other options on how to deal with it, I DON'T CARE! If someone threatened a family member of mine, I don't care of there is another way, they're DEAD! This also shows the little bit of darkness inside of Emma that is manipulated her pure heart. Her family and loved ones lead to her becoming dark and almost becoming dark. Cruella threatened her son, so she killed her (Also, people get over it! You should know by now that if a villain appears on this show, they're likely going to be dead and you need to get over it and not hate on perfectly fine characters for it)! Even when she was mad at her parents, when she found out Lily was planning to kill them, she almost killed her and if it wasn't for Regina, she would have. Her good heart and love towards those close to her and even willing to destroy those wishing them harm is what caused her to go dark. So she did have the greatest potential for darkness because she had so much power and even with that spell, no one is completely good or evil, which is shown through both Emma and Lily.

She WASN'T NEEDED to break the second curse. No one made any arrangements to make her be the one to break it. That's why Regina was able to break it. Emma doesn't have a pure heart. No one does. Who are you kidding? Why do so many fans go out of their way to blind themselves from Emma's mistakes and crimes in order to perpetrate this belief that she is some kind of all powerful being and kindness and purity. First of all, such a character would be boring as hell. And second of all, Emma is not in any way that kind of person. She is FLAWED, like everyone else. [I](Also, people get over it! You should know by now that if a villain appears on this show, they're likely going to be dead and you need to get over it and not hate on perfectly fine characters for it)[/I] No one has anything to get over . . . aside from the bad writing that has surrounded Emma's character since this show's first season. And by the way, she nearly killed Henry, while trying to save him from Cruella. She is damn lucky that he had ducked when she made her attack. [I] So she did have the greatest potential for darkness because she had so much power and even with that spell, no one is completely good or evil, which is shown through both Emma and Lily.[/I] They've shown this through other characters like Regina, Snow, Hook, etc. And all you can do is point out Emma and Lily? The problem with Emma is that Horowitz and Kitsis are willing to hint Emma's moral ambiguity, but they never follow through. Never. This is why I consider her to be the most frustrating character on this show. Joss Whedon showed more balls in his portrayal of Buffy Summers (especially in the later seasons) than A&E have ever been willing to do with Emma. Now, they've given Emma a moral out if she ever commits a crime. If she kills someone or commit some other crime then . . . boom! The "devil" or that entity made her do it. That is exactly what many fans will probably do. And they would have wasted away any REAL chance of show exactly how morally questionable Emma can be.

KataraLover I focused on Emma and Lily because people are saying Emma is pure of heart by giving Lily all of her darkness you idiot! Also, did you not read anything I said? I pointed out quite a lot of times that NO ONE IS PURE OF HEART! Did you only read every other sentence I typed? I'm aware that Emma isn't pure of heart and said that she's made mistakes like committing crimes. Get some freaking glasses, dumbass. I've stated that she's not pure of heart, just like Lily isn't completely evil. Or did you skip that argument as well. But than again, what should I expect from someone like you, who only reads what she/he wants and complains. Cruella died, BOO HOO! Cry a river, build a bridge, and get over it. Emma was meant to stop Zelena because of her light magic and because her power was said to be the most powerful because of true love. Get over yourself already because it's VERY clear you didn't read all of what I said, since you ignored how I acknowledged that Emma is not pure of heart or why I focused on Emma and Lily in particular. EDIT: Sorry for the name calling and being rude, I was in a bad mood.

DR76 [Cruella died, BOO HOO! Cry a river, build a bridge, and get over it. ] I should get over Cruella being a victim of murder, because she's a bad woman? So, it's okay to tolerate her murder because of her moral compass . . . and ignore the fact that Emma's moral compass took a nose dive because she went overboard in her attempt to "save" Henry? Or perhaps she wasn't really trying to save Henry. Perhaps she wanted to punish Cruella for doing the same thing that her parents did . . . child kidnapping. But what can you expect from a woman who has no remorse for stealing someone else's car and keeping it.
