I remember visiting this website once...
It was called Lothar Frey recast! | Watchers on the dinding | A Game of Thrones Community for Breaking News, Casting, and Commentary
Here's some stuff I remembered seeing:
Though it’s almost time for the premiere of season 6, it’s never too late for a little
casting news! Or recasting news, as it appears to be in this case.
casting for a new character that bore a suspicious resemblance to a Frey. The “hapless sly son to cruel father” was set to appear in three episodes. At the time, we speculated he might be an equivalent to the books’ unlucky Merrett Frey, but based on what we’ve learned today, the character is someone we’ve already met.
reader alcasinoroyale, we’ve learned that British actor Daniel Tuite has joined the cast of
in the role of Lothar Frey, for season 6. The actor’s Spotlight CV credits him for the part of Lothar as a recurring role this year.
Lothar Frey previously was played by Tom Brooke, appearing in two episodes of the third season, most notably in “The Rains of Castamere.” Lothar is the Frey family member responsible for the murder of Talisa Stark, stabbing her in her pregnant stomach at the infamous Red Wedding.
As it turns out, we’ve already seen the new Lothar, in the second season 6 trailer. Tuite can be seen sitting at Walder Frey’s right-hand side.
It certainly makes sense to bring back Lothar along with old Walder and Black Walder. Brooke must not have been available for last fall’s filming. Three episodes is a good amount of time to reestablish the Freys this year. It seems like everyone from season 3 is coming back, one way or the other; perhaps it’s time for a little payback too?

Awesome! It’s great to have a new face to a character that’s obviously gonna die and a terrible, terrible death haha.
Poor Tom Brooke, people bullying him on the street everytime he walks out.
That’s what you get for cutting Catelyn’s throat. I’m not surprised he gave up on the role.
3 episodes, this should be quite interesting then
Will the Freys die this season? I hope so, I hate the Freys and their stupid hats.
Has anyone been able to find info on whether or not Tobias Menzies is back this season? Or even a recast for Edmure if TM was too busy with Outlander?
He’s definitely back; it was reported here a while back that he was involved with the Riverrun scenes.
They had like 88 other Freys to choose from and they decided to recast one and keep it the same character? Makes zero sense to me. Why not just introduce another Frey?
I love just almost every single thing about this show, and I know it’s hard with such an large ensemble cast.
But I’d be lying if I didn’t say that the recasts bug the hell out of me.
Lothar killed Talisa and Little Ned. That makes him, like, the second worst Frey. Which is saying a lot.
Doesn’t look like enough meat on those bones to make a proper pie

Recasts bug me, too. I remember Lothar Frey’s face well. Daario recast has been worst. And annoyed they re-used Dean-Charles Chapman, though I think he’s done a great job playing Tommen. I’ll try to give D&D credit that they tried to get the original Lothar back. Glad they’re keeping the role instead of making up new Frey for us to hate.
His death will mean more than Merrett’s death or that of one of the many other Freys named in the books … I think Merrett’s responsibility was to drink the Greatjon senseless but he failed in that (at least that was what he said in the books) … the death of Lame Lothar will have much more resonance if and when it occurs
I think Tom Brooke is in the new Series Preacher, that’s probably why he couldn’t come back. He was too busy with that.
“It seems like everyone from season 3 is coming back, one way or the other; perhaps it’s time for a little payback too?”
Oh, let’s hope so. I’m not normally such a vengeful person, but I’ve been awaiting some Frey deaths for a long time. I see Old Walder is toasting some occasion, with a big smile on his nasty old face. I’m hoping this is the season that smile disappears permanently, along with Lothar and Black Walder.
I actually don’t think the Freys will be dying this season… I think it will be more of a setup for their deaths (likely early) in season 7.
Anyway, that’s too bad they couldn’t get Tom Brooke back. At least they got Tim Plester back as Black Walder.

Why do you think any Frey retribution won’t be till season 7? Learning there are at least 3 episodes in season 6 with Freys starring, I’m encouraged there will be a big storyline there. If no deaths, what would all that focus be about? Completely new material? It’s possible.
So, is it confirmed that the casting call was for Lothar? I always imagined this would be a new Frey, who takes charge of the Siege of Riverrun and is hanged by outlaws or killed by the wolf pack before a possible RW 2.0. Some kind of Merrett/Ryman combination, possibly with some redeeming character traits as well to show that not everyone in the Frey family is purely evil.
The timeline of the Riverland plot this year is one of the big question marks. If Lothar appears in 3 episodes this means that the Siege will last at least 2 episodes and the third appearance would be at the feast shown in the trailer. We know that Jaime is in Kings Landing until at least episode 6×06. Assuming that he is absent in 6×07 due to the travel time that means Riverrun will be in episodes 6×08, 6×09 and 6×10, which is kind of strange as I thought 6×09 would entirely focus on the big Northern battle. Of course there could also be a buildup episode earlier in the season involving the Freys but not Jaime.
I’m not sure if a possible Red Wedding 2.0 would take place this season. It would fit the whole Stark revenge theme this year and could be a great season end shocker in 6×10, but I think it would feel a bit rushed. We show needs some time to re-introduce all the Riverland characters, do the Siege properly and get everyone in place (Jaime and Brienne captured by Outlaws?). The trailer scene with Walder toasting could also be him celebrating the taking of Riverrun with his Lannister friends and possibly announcing that he is about to get married again. It does not look like a wedding feast to me. For example there is no “bride” to be seen. If this was Walder’s wedding, wouldn’t his future bride be seated next to him instead of Lothar and Black Walder? If Arya is somehow involved in RW 2.0 this could also be problem with her timeline as she is in Braavos until 6×07 or 6×08 IIRC. The Riverland plotline this season could possibly end with Jaime and Brienne meeting a certain Lady (if she is in the show). I’m not a big fan of LSH, but introducing her in one of the last scenes of 6×10 would be a huge WTF?!-moment for most of the audience. Red Wedding 2.0 is coming for sure, but I think it will happen early in season 7.
If some element of the LSH plot line doesn’t play out this year this will be the worst trolling ever … We gave up on all that … Now everything points to it happening … Why why why … I’m not gonna get carried away though … I’ve given up … Would be cool if it did happen but at this point I’m like nope not gonna look forward to it all season
I was about to ask why recast instead of casting a new character out of Walder’s dozens of sons… then I read on and saw Lothar killed Talisa and fetus Ned. Now I get it! He looks pretty much the same, anyway.
He’s so dead… as are the rest of them! As I see it, they’re gonna go back to the Twins with some Lannister guests to celebrate the taking of Riverrun, and Brynden and the Brotherhood (and perhaps Arya and Nymeria?) will use this opportunity for the endlessly hypothesized Red Wedding 2.0 that so many theorists expect to happen in similar circumstances in TWOW.
This is an anime movie called fire and ice, 1983, wtf?????? Did grrm rip this anime off to a series of books?
Would be fantastic to see the Freys get what’s coming to them this season, but if it does happen, I don’t think Arya will be involved. It sounds like she’s going to be busy in Braavos for most of the season, and Maisie’s comments about Arya’s upcoming storyline just haven’t screamed “triumphant revenge we’ve all been waiting for”?
I mean, she’s mostly been talking about how much Arya will be broken down. I would’ve expected a little more hyping if something that big was coming, like the way Sophie has been talking about Sansa’s arc this season. But I really hope I’m wrong.
A technical issue (or maybe it’s intentional and I never noticed it before…): Many of the news from the last days don’t appear on the Home page!
I usually just check the landing page if new stuff has been posted, but I noticed that there are some links in the twitter widget to articles I’m not seeing on the page… turns out one has to click the “News” menu item to really see all of them :-[
Seems to be a bug, or maybe I’m just slow… Anyway: A bit confusing and not intuitive.
Winter is Coming“, a reader has posted that an actor named Brahm Gallagher seems to have “filmed a principal role on Game of Thrones 6”.
Have we heard about him before? Could this be Merrett Frey?
Fire, Ice, Wind, Thunder etc. are old Nature enemies of mankind. Think of the Snow Queen in HC Andersen’s tale or the Witch from Narnia or Jack Frost etc. No, he didn’t rip off anything in my book.
I’m sorry for Tom Brooke. He was perfect in the role, and I enjoyed his work in Sherlock.
So we know Jaime is in KL until episode 6. The Riverrun set was only used for only 2 episodes. If Lothar is in three episodes and we have an early set up scene/s in the Twins (that are shown in the trailer), then this must be followed by another two eps 7-10, so its late season that we will see the Frey story pan out-so its gonna be big. My guess is that Lothar will be hanged first of all in S6 as payback for Talisa and little Ned, followed by RW2 (possibly next season to give time for Arya to join the wolfpack and to re-establish TBWB). He has three episodes- they’re surely setting this specific character up for a significant demise.
The question remains-who would know that it was Lothar who killed the Stark heir other than a certain “remnant witness” of the RW? Yet another piece moved into place for a potential return of LSH? Or I guess the Freys could just as easily mention it in an establishing scene.
