Oh boy oh boy oh boy. If you thought the Battle of Hardhome was exhilarating, Game of Thrones looks to be plotting a new epic, cinematic battle in season 6, and its for control of Winterfell.

Watchers on the Wall, the battle sequence is not only for control of the once Stark stronghold but the entire North, with sources claiming that it will feature in episode 9 (sounds about right, timing-wise) and the production crew are referring to it as the “battle of six armies”.

A photo from filming popped up on Imgur earlier (above) but has since been taken down, with soldiers seen holding banners for houses Stark, Mormont and possibly Hornwood.

Season 5\'s Battle of Hardhome will take some beating

The news potentially provides a reason for the presumably resurrected Jon Snow being spotted in Stark armour this week, as he would surely be pivotal in uniting the allies to take on House Bolton.

director Jeremy Podeswa previously promised this season would be an explosive one.

"What\'s great about this season is that there\'s very little expository stuff. It starts off with a bang and you\'re right into the excitement of the story,” he said.

"There\'s an enormous fan curiosity of where we\'re going to go, and that makes me equally nervous and excited.

”There have been so many diversions from the original story in the last couple of seasons that I think the audience is ready to go completely off-book.

"I think everyone\'s going to be really happy. I don\'t think fans are going to be disappointed.”
