All the classics, Mulan, Merida and Rapunzel, there is nothing annoying about Rapunzel to me.

Also very strongly agree with Merida deserving a better movie and Moana getting hate. Also agree with Aurora, Ariel, Belle, and Rapunzel. I didn't realize people were annoyed at Rapunzel changing her mind. I thought it was a very natural reaction, and in fact I wished there was more of it.

^I remember a few people either here or some other site went on about how annoying that scene was. I think some people kinda forget about how since Rapunzel grew up with someone like Gothel then of course she’s going to have this kind of anxiety and everything

I don't feel like people needed anymore of a reaction from Ariel about the stuffed crab. Ariel saved Sebastian. That WAS her reaction!

Merida got the weird movie she got, because of two directors, with competing visions. (Also, after Prince of Egypt, I think Brenda Chapman lost her feel for crafting a story).

Moana doesn't get hate. Merida gets hate, and so does Ariel.

^Moana gets called a Mary Sue and overrated a lot here, I can’t remember the last time I saw hate for Ariel, and Ariel only saving one crab and not looking sad for all the other creatures that got killed for dinner isn’t enough of a reaction for me personally.

At least, Moana never gets called a poor role model. That hasn't happened at all! Moana's accomplishments aren't dismissed because she sought romantic love ("Ariel gave up everything for a guy," "sold her soul to the devil," "should have saved all of the crabs," "led Flounder into a dangerous area against his will," "bratty," "selfish," "spoiled," "nothing redeemable or to like about her," "Ariel doesn't apologize to her dad enough," "Ariel needs to be punished," etc., etc.)

You were not around when this spot devolved into OUTRIGHT ARIEL HATRED. I first joined during that time, and received non-stop hate PMs from users who wanted me to stop being a member, here.

In vast contradiction, people LIKE Moana. Even I like her, even though I don't have Moana very high on my list. Moana is likable. People treat Ariel like she was the worst princess character Disney ever created, because of the new feminism perspective. Moana fits the new feminist perspective to a "T." Therefore, nobody complains about her, except for "Mary Sue" and "unoriginal."

I would not call that hatred. Moana is not being raked over the coals. Just my opinion.

I agree with most of these. I just picked this one because it annoys me a bit that Belle is always seen as the smart one just because she can read fairytales. Rapunzel actually mapped out stars and can read, Mulan devised a way to save China, Pocahontas was wise enough to choose peace. I feel that all of these princesses were very intelligent and even more so than Belle, in my opinion.

@wavesurf Ik Ariel had that kind of hate in the past I just haven’t seen it recently like Merida. I see more hate for Merida, Tiana, and even Aurora nowadays than I do Ariel by comparison

And it just feels weird that in a movie where fish and merpeople are equals it just seems like Ariel’s cool with Eric and Grimsby eating fish right in front of her. It’s just a plot hole if anything it’s not even that big a deal

^ Basically, i view the "Ariel appears to not be enormously offended by people eating her culture," the same way I do ALL of the following MAJOR plot holes:

1) "the Beast looking like a full grown man when he is supposedly cursed by the enchantress in the 1991 cartoon, but when you do the math, and he must find love by age 21, he had to have been 'age 10' when he got cursed"--- so the cartoon has a big plot-hole there, in terms of Prince Adam's depiction.
2) Pocahontas looking like a "hot woman in her early twenties" when she was only age 11 or 13, when she actually met John Smith in real life.
3) Tiana thinking that Naveen left her for Lottie, and doesn't remember that if she is still a frog, that means that Naveen didn't kiss Lottie.
4) Rapunzel thinking Eugene left her, right after he had literally pushed back the crown thing during the boat ride, and had said, " I want you." This bugs me a lot!
5) Elsa being too terrified to use her powers, because "only love" can help her control her powers, and free her from the catastrophe of causing a blizzard--- but Elsa manages to use her powers just fine on the mountainside while alone--- without the love of Anna at all--- to build a very spacious residence. This contradiction has ALWAYS irritated me.

So, honestly, picking at Ariel, when there are gaping holes with other movies, is...I dunno... It just doesn't make sense to me. I'd pick at them all, if I had to go the extreme nitpicking route.

@Adelital: This is none of my real business, but I am a psych nurse. Are you on a mood stabilizer at all? It might help with the enormous mood swings you're experiencing.

I picked at Jasmine’s hole in her story and I was going to pick at Belle not recognizing the Beast when he transformed in front of her but I already used that one a lot. I’m not picking only on Ariel, it’s just the matter of me not wanting to use the same opinion over and over again in these polls

And for Jasmine even if she didn’t need to be relieved that he’s alive she could have at least questioned it after mourning him for days

And as for Prince Adam I always thought he was a Beast for 10 years and the servants couldn’t age because they were objects

Once again, I am done talking about this because it’s not like I’m even attacking Ariel or even only saying negative stuff about her, I said something negative to more than one princess on this list and just because I happen to say something negative (which wasn’t even that negative btw) about your favorite doesn’t mean there needs to be an argument about it.

I agree with a lot of these to varying degrees. Rapunzel doesn't annoy me, it would annoy me if she was constantly second-guessing herself AND taking forever to actually take action, kinda like Pocahontas.

Telling people who you have no authority over what to do is pretty bossy. Especially people who are doing you a favor and could easily kick you out of their house. But it's okay, I love that about Snow White.

We never really got insight into how Ariel feels about the way humans treat fish in general and that would have been nice to see, but who knows, maybe Merpeople have livestock too. lmao

I haven't seen the "Belle is the smart Disney Princess" thing among Disney fans in years, these days, almost everyone agrees that it's Mulan. Disney does still market Belle as the smart one though.

Irene Bedard's performance as Pocahontas is pretty lackluster.

Tiana's only consistently aggressive towards Naveen, and she has every right to be mad at him. Otherwise, she's probably the calmest and most levelheaded princess outside of the Classic Era.

Other princesses have far more instances of being aggressive, letting their emotions run wild and overstepping their boundaries, like this instance with Jasmine. By the way, I don't really mind how Jasmine reacted but she should have at least brought up what Jafar told her, that the "boy from the market" was supposedly dead.

I didn’t really consider Snow White to be bossy, she just kinda had me thinking of a mom when she was trying to gets the dwarves to wash their hands before dinner :p

That’s what I’ve been saying about Ariel, we’ve seen her talk with other fish and Triton even refer to humans as fish eaters so that’s why that whole thing just confused the heck out of me.

I was even thinking yesterday how Jasmine is just as “aggressive” as Tiana. I’m even considering watching both movies again and making a tally of all the times they get mad no matter the reason.

I was just seeing a lot of old polls lately asking which princess we all thought was the smartest and of course Belle was always number one so I just wanted to put that out there.
