I stumbled across this new book coming out in January which strikes me kind of as the "anti-Twilight" in a way. It involves a girl falling for an undead guy, similar to Twilight, however this undead guy is a zombie.

Vampires, however, play a big role in the story-- their douchebags.

I'm kind of interested in this new novel because it seems to tackle an issue in teen literature that I think is worth discussing-- first loves, and how serious they really are. Alley (the main character) has dreams and aspirations of ditching her small town, until she meets Doug, who she thought was just dark, but it turns out he's four years dead.

"Dating a 'post human' is a status symbol", according to author Adam Selzer. All the girls at Alley's school are dying to date a vampire or zombie, so much so that guys "who would normally be wearing backwards abercrombie hats are going for the goth look." [link]

Sound familiar?

The video shows a mock pamphlet for teenagers, similar to sex ed pamphlets promoting abstinence, which asks the question, "Should I convert?"

Obviously, conversion is a all-too-clear metaphor for sex. But it did remind me of Twilight, and the allure of Edward, and Bella's desperation to be turned into a vampire.

I hope that, in this story, Alley and Doug figure out a solution to their problem that doesn't end in a half-zombie baby whose named after their parents.
