Newly single Brad Pitt is kissing another woman – on film that is.

premiered online on Tuesday, showing him in several steamy scenes with costar Marion Cotillard.

The one-minute clip was released on the same day news broke that Pitt\'s estranged wife Angelina Jolie filed for divorce after two years of marriage.

The Robert Zemeckis-directed 1940s period drama follows an American intelligence officer (Pitt) who falls for a French Resistance fighter (Cotillard) while on a deadly mission in North Africa. The pair eventually reunites in London, though their romantic bond is tested by the pressures of war.

Sources previously told PEOPLE that Cotillard, 40, had nothing to do with Pitt, 52, and Jolie\'s split.

Lizzy Caplan, Jared Harris, and Matthew Goode round out the film\'s cast.

"Brad and Marion immediately had the utmost respect for each other, so once they delved into their characters, their chemistry was electric,"

producer Graham King told PEOPLE, adding that the Oscar winners "spent a lot of time developing their characters" with each other before filming began in early spring 2016.

Jolie, 41, filed divorce papers on Monday, noting in court documents that she and Pitt have been separated since Sept. 15. Jolie cited irreconcilable differences for their split, and did not request child or spousal support.

. They were married in 2014 – two years after getting engaged.

Jolie has asked for physical custody of the couple\'s six children – Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne, and Knox – and for Pitt to be granted visitation.

– Pitt\'s fourth World War II movie in his career – hits theaters on Nov. 23.
