Characteristics of shōnen-ai include that they were exotic, often taking place in Europe,and idealistic. Suzuki describes shōnen-ai as being "pedantic" and "difficult to understand", saying that they required "knowledge of classic literature, history and science" and were replete with "philosophical and abstract musings". She says that this challenged the young readers and expanded their minds. Although they could not understand the works at first reading, as they grew older they would come to understand the works more. In the meantime, "the readers' attention became focused on the figure of the male protagonist" and how he navigated his sexual relationships. oleh the late 1980s, the popularity of professionally published shōnen-ai was declining, and yaoi dōjinshi was becoming lebih popular. Ok, so kinda resuming all that, and also from personal experience, they are both about Boys Love, but yaoi tend to be lebih graphic than shounen ai. Also the whole "yaoi is just porn with no plot" is a questionable statement that i dont agree with: anda can find crappy plots in any genre.
