I paced around the room, ignoring the team's confused looks and Batman's tapping on the computer.
Lian was on my mind the whole time. I couldn't beruang to think that something bad had happened to her.
I looked at Batman, who was staring at a map on the computer screen. He kept zooming in and out, not able to find anything.
I groaned and started pacing again, impatient.
Finally, beeping noises came from the computer. On the map, was a glowing yellow dot.
"What's that?" I demanded, pointing at it.
"I just tracked Jeannette's signal, when Kid Flash contacted her. Hopefully, Lian is with her."
Megan walked up selanjutnya to me, looking mad. "In a ghost town?"
batman nodded. "Retrieve Jeannette, whether Lian is with her atau not." He looked at me, his mouth in a straight line. "Are anda coming, Red Arrow?"
"Only because of my daughter," I growled, following the team to their bioship.
I looked around, wondering if it was aman, brankas to stand in here.
"Sit down," the alien girl motioned to a red seat.
I sat down in it, and kursi belts automatically wrapped around me. The ride seemed to speed by, and we landed in a gray ghost town. It was very windy; even Superboy couldn't stand it.
The buildings were all run-down, but we checked them anyway. Lian nor Jenny was nowhere to be found, and Megan sensed a tornado starting.
Artemis looked around nervously. "I think we should head back to base, the weather's getting iffy."
"Go then," I snapped. "I'll stay here and find Lian."
"But it's dangerous here, Speedy!" KF said, as if I didn't know.
"It's Red ARROW," Robin pointed out matter-of-factly.
I rolled my eyes. One of the reasons why I didn't gabung the team in the first place.
"They're right," Aqualad agreed. "We'll find Lian some other time, Red Arrow."
We were all about to head back to the bioship, when a childlike voice approached us.
"Daddy!" Lian yelled, grabbing my hand.
"Lian!" I breathed a sigh of relief. "What--?"
She started pulling me away from the torn-up building. "We have to help Jenny!"
"Oh God," I breathed. "Where is she?"
We followed Lian across the whole town, with Robin checking his tracker every few minutes. Jeannette's signal kept popping up.
"Here it is!" We came across a ramshackle little cottage, that was surrounded oleh garbage.
"Stay back," I warned.
Superboy looked around cautiously. "Why do I feel weaker?"
Robin tapped his tracker. "There's Kryptonite all over this place! That's not a good sign..."
I sprinted toward the shack, followed oleh everyone except for Lian and Superboy. As we got closer, a beeping sound came up, counting down quickly.
"JEANNETTE!!" I called, but it was too late. The building exploded right before my very eyes, sending us flying backwards.
I sat up and ignored my stinging knee. Garden tools were scattered around in piles of brick and wood, but there was no sign of my ex-girlfriend anywhere.
Ex, I repeated. Roy, anda heartless jerk.
I ran back to the shack and searched through the wood. There was nothing under the rubble except for the dirty ground. I thrashed at them, hopeful.
"Jeannette?!" Aqualad called from behind me. Megan was flying around, her fingers pressed to her forehead, trying to find Jenny's Aura.
"Jenny!" I yelled again, to no answer. I tripped over a stick of Kryptonite, which looked like a blade.
I spotted a ripped piece of a kemeja tattered over a rake. It looked like the one Jenny was wearing when I saw her yesterday.
I found a torn shoe just a few feet away, and picked it up. "Allstars," I muttered. Jeannette's favorit brand.
I lifted a floorboard, and found her. Her brown hair was strewn all over her face, covering it.
"Oh no..." I brushed it off, revealing her closed eyes. Her beautiful face was arranged as if she was sleeping, but I knew she wasn't. Parts of her jeans were ripped up, and she had deep bloody cuts all over her body, nothing like the ones she had diberikan herself two years ago.
I suddenly realized the purpose of the blade, but I ignored it. I lifted her dead, limp body in my arms, crying into her shirt.
The air suddenly went down, but it started to rain. I heard footsteps behind me, and Lian hugged my leg.
"But she promised!" she wailed.
"This is my fault," I moaned.
My fault.
