It deserves all the praise it gets, for I think it's one of Disney's best <3! Strong Cast of Characters, Great Songs, Beautiful Score, Wonderful Animation <3!

*Sigh* are we still using the term overrated? I guess we are answering all of these subjectively, then.

The movie is praised for being something groundbreaking when it's not, the animation is plain, how silly the movie can be at times ruins it for me (The crash the wedding scene making a powerful villain like Ursula look like a joke and the racist chef portrayal in les poisons) and my least favorite part, you guessed it, the characters. The only characters I love are Sebastian and Flounder (Maybe Ursula, though like I said I have my issues with her.) And the poor guys spend the whole movie catering towards the whims of a bratty, selfish, and ungrateful teenage girl like Ariel. Eric is incredibly bland, shallow (Phonocentrism, anyone?) and clueless. I've voiced my complaints about Ariel a million times. Ariel is always praised for being what the classics weren't, but I don't see that as a good thing. The classics were kind towards everyone, sweet, and never once whined about their conditions. Ariel treats everyone with little to no respect, is a selfish brat the whole movie, and whines about how bad her life is when she's just a pampered princess.

So, that's my subjective view on it, I guess. Although can we please word these polls differently? It would just cause less confusion for me. :)
