Heaven Leigh Casteel is a fourteen-year-old girl living in poverty with her rather large and discontented family, in a shack in the hills of West Virginia. Her father, Luke, is still haunted oleh the memory of his first wife who died giving birth to Heaven and never speaks to Heaven.
