why do zero likes yuki if yuki loves her brother to much

Why would Yuuki's feelings towards Kaname (or anyone) affect how Zero feels towards her? He loves her because of the kindness she showed towards him when they first met, after his parents' deaths, and how that kindness was the only thing which gave him hope and pulled him out of his depression then.
