I think there are people on both sides who only see looks but personally for me it really is his personality that made me a fan. I always have a soft spot for an underdog(lol) in the stories I read and watch. Also he didn't for me come off as an intruder especially when Bella was practically abandoned oleh the Cullen family(no matter how good his intent was she felt abandoned). Bella came to Jacob of course to indulge in her hallucinations but it slowly became more. Bella admitted to loving Jacob but that cinta wasn't as strong as her feelings for Edward. Jacob did hope that her feelings would change but I don't think he was a bad person to hope for a better situation for Bella.

Well Edward is a good guy. Jacob is kind of also a good guy. Edward is a vampire, and Jacob a werewolf. Edward and Bella cinta each other, and Jacob likes Bella. But Bella likes Edward and they get a daughter together. This is the simplified answer oleh the way.
