Definitely a violation. He deserved to know, but if I'm not mistaken, Caroline is supposed to be Elena's best friend, not Stefan's. And if she really is so concerned about Stefan, she should have made sure he was told in the right way by convincing Elena to tell him herself.

No!! Caroline had no right to tell Stefan anything that had to do with Elena. Especially since Elena told her not to say anything. Clearly Elena wanted to tell Stefan herself when she was ready. I agree with DelenaLove201 Caroline is supposed to be Elena's best friend not Stefan's. So it was a major bitch move to tell him. I hate how Caroline has obviously chosen sides by hating on Damon and worshiping Stefan around everyone. She is being so stupid about it too. She needs to be less judging. She is supposed to be a best friend to Elena which means standing up for Elena not Stefan.

As much as I like Staroline, I'm upset that lately Caroline is so much on Stefan's side and doesn't support Elena at all. She definitely shouldn't have told Stefan about Delena. She meant well but she only made things a lot worse.

I think the right thing to do would have been to try and convince Elena to tell Stefan. That would not even have been necessary because Damon and Elena WERE planning to tell him (they only had that one-day-deal and then it got more complicated, so they needed more time to work it out), but Caroline didn't know that of course, so she should have talked to Elena.
