The Last Man On Earth" from last Sunday night on Fox, March 29, details the events of episode 8, titled, "Mooovin\' In," and may contain spoilers. Prior to the episode airing, the description of the episode stated, "Phil gets a cow to prove to the group that he is worth something after Todd becomes the go-to man. Carol pressures Phil for her to move in with him."
No longer "The Last Man On Earth," Phil Miller, played by Will Forte, and Carol Parbasian, played by Kristen Schaal are now joined by Melissa Shart, played by January Jones and Todd, played by Mel Rodriguez. All four are now alive and well in Tuscon, but Todd\'s presence is causing Phil a considerable amount of trouble. This is the third time that Fox has aired two half hour episodes in a row on Sunday night.
The episode begins with a short recap of the previous episode, "She Drives Me Crazy," and then takes the viewer to the campfire and meeting area where Phil, Carol, Melissa and Todd sit around a roaring fire. Todd has went out and found some jewelry for Melissa, a bracelet and Carol is instantly envious, quipping, "Phil\'s never gotten me anything." Her face is full of disappointment. Phil defends himself, claiming, "Carol, I got you that rash cream." Carol rolls her eyes and says, "I stand corrected."
Todd takes the floor and announces that he\'s carved a sculpture of the group and then shows everyone his end result. The four figures that represent Todd, Melissa, Carol and Phil stand side by side. Todd manhandles the piece, pushing it off the table, and his figure breaks off from the group. We\'ll see just how symbolic this moment is in future episodes. It\'s extremely possible that we just might see Phil break from the group. It will be interesting if the show starts killing off the cast and it almost seems like destiny at this point that more survivors will eventually gather in Tuscon.
Phil comes by Carol\'s house and asks to watch what is on her DVR, since no one is broadcasting any new shows because, well, everyone in the world is dead. So far, we\'ve yet to encounter anyone who died from the outbreak because we haven\'t seen a single dead body, which is weird considering the world is basically dead. Carol wants to live with Phil, but he\'s a needy guy who has to have some space, even from his wife. Carol wants to ramp up the re-population plan.
Phil remarks, "I get no respect in this community," when Carol throws around how great Todd has been to the community. In a desperate move to assert some dominance in the community, and keep Carol in her own house, Phil measures Carol\'s door roughly using approximations of arm lengths and tells her he is off to the door store. Phil does not want Carol to move in, but he does want Phil to move on, in one way or another.
Phil goes to talk to his sports balls at the bar. Outside, Phil finds a cow just walking the street and it\'s the first animal we\'ve seen so far. Phil brings it back to his house and shows his community just how valuable he is because of finding the cow. Todd steals some thunder from Phil when he tells everyone that he knows how to make cheese, butter and milk the cow. Phil keeps muttering, "Friggin\' Todd" throughout the episode. Phil wants to make steaks out of the cow, but the rest of the group outnumber him on wanting to keep it around to produce dairy for them.
Phil hatches a plan to steal his thunder back and he unties Todd\'s clove hitch knot and takes the cow to his bar for the time being. His big plan is to bring the cow back at some point and be the hero again. Phil definitely thinks Todd is getting too much credit for the skills he brings to the community. The next morning Todd believes that it\'s his fault the cow is missing, because he tied the knot that came loose.
The group decides to search for the cow and Phil is speechless when Melissa picks the quadrant where the bar is located. Phil tries to switch search quadrants with Melissa, but she refuses. Melissa knows Phil most likely took the cow, and she sees right through his lies. Phil follows Melissa to the bar but she walks in and out of the bar quickly and doesn\'t see the cow. Melissa leaves and Phil sneaks into the bar to check out what\'s going on, but Phil doesn\'t find the cow either.
Phil, while driving around, sees Todd with the cow. "Friggin\' Todd," Phil mutters. Todd decides to let Phil have the glory for bringing the cow back because Phil has done so much for Todd, who is now with the woman of his dreams. Phil at first says that he can\'t take credit, but he does anyway. As the group sits around eating cereal with fresh milk, Melissa asks Phil, "I thought you were lactose intolerant?" Phil replies, "It\'s my cheat day."
In the middle of the night Carol screams. Everyone comes running to her house and she\'s cornered by the cow. Because cows can climb stairs but they can\'t go down stairs, Carol is forced to move in with Phil, much to his shock. Carol tells Phil the situation could have been avoided had Phil fixed her door. The two lay in bed and Carol explains how the cow got into her house. Her story is in direct conflict with reality, which plays out in front of us. Carol untied the cow and brought it inside and up the stairs so she would escalate her plans to live with her husband, the former last man on earth, Phil Miller.
