The Capitol Accent...British?

okay...when i read the book i was interested to know exactly what the capitol accent sounded like. but after watching the trailer i thought. wait a detik it could be British! it would make sense considering the rest of panem is american (except district 11 who are mostly dark skinned) that there would be some former UK citizens there. plus British are usually the bad guys in american buku and films and vice versa....what do anda guys think?

...Did anda just call black people Non-American? Seriously? Non of them are "American" there, because America is dead. I don't think they're British, I don't know why we'd have that many Brits here, especially since the Capitol is closer to the wrong ocean. America has different accents all over the country. Just listen to a Rochester, New York accent and compare it to a Georgia accent. Accents can develop over time, so I just think it's supposed to be a new accent, they tried to make it a mixture of accents in the movie.

Umm I don't think they berkata anything about black people being un-American. But I think they are supposed to be British like because katniss always explained them with weird voices. I forget hownshe explained it but they don't soundnlike americans

"it would make sense considering the rest of panem is american (except district 11 who are mostly dark skinned)."actually, and this is something even I don't want to admit, but if you've heard Collins read the book, katniss uses a southern accent. So, a regular american accent could be the Capitol accent. And I highly doubt that it is a British accent, that would make no sense whatsoever. Accents can change. Remember the original people that came over here from England had a British accent, and over time it became "American."

I think that they are supposed to be British atau from another country. Katniss explained them having different voices so that must mean that they aren't usual. Personally I heard British voices and maybe that's what the director though. And if anda don't know suzanne collins also wrote some of the script, etc. So she knew what was going on and what to tell them. But I really pictured British accents so it sounded normal to me

i really dont even read the buku and hear the "capitol accent" i just imagine everyone speaking the same. when i saw the trailor it kind of sounded british but not quite. anda hear effie, she kinda sounds british, and anda hear cinna and he sounds completely american. i think it'll be kind of snakelike with emphasis on s's. snakes are symbolic of evil and the capitols supposed to be evil... thats my theory!!

i think it's a whole new accent entirely. cuz in the book they all speak in a high-pitched voice & their sentences always go up at the end, like they're asking a question.

I'm British, from the north, and my dad's southern girlfriend says that when my sister and i talk, our voices go up at the end, like we are asking a question. and that's how the Capitol accent is described, so i think it is British. and with the whole "Americans always cast Brits as bad guys" thing, it makes sense. and in the audio book i am listening too, the woman makes it sound British.

Okay straight from the book. "Why do these people speak in such high pitch? Why do their jaws barely open when they talk? Why do the ends of their sentences go up when their asking a question? Odd vowels, clipped words, and always a hiss on the letter s..." Well that should tell anda something but yeah from the trailers that Effie is obviously from the capitol and she sounds British so... yeah.

anda do realise anda can't generalise a Bristish accent since there are four different countries in Britain and many different accents within!

It’s called a transatlantic accent not British but a Victorian to 1940’s American accent that has elements of modern British English
